1. What is Competency?

a. To know competency, first of all we should know the difference between competence and competency.

Competence’ means a skill and the standard of performance reached (What people can do), while ‘Competency’

refers to the behaviour by which it is achieved (Focused on how they do it), shown in Fig. 1.1.

Definition

� Competency is a capacity of an individual that leads to the behaviour, which meets the job

demands within the parameters of the organizational environment and in turn brings about

desired results.

� Competency mix comprises Knowledge, Skills & Attitude.

� Competencies are the characteristics of a manger. This goes along with our promise that
