A World Class Learning School from a World Class Learning GroupCompass International School, Al Khor is a member of the World Class Learning Group (WCL), a group that has been at the forefront of learning for over 25 years. World Class Learning Group provides great learning to more than 3000 children and students in our schools in America, Europe and Qatar.

My child’s teachers have always exceeded our expectations. They honestly amaze us with their talent, enthusiasm and hard work. While our two children are quite different in their inherent abilities and personalities, we are certain that they are both being nurtured and challenged.

Success ProvenAcross the world our students achieve well beyond the expectations for their age and ability. Year after year, exam results across all our schools demonstrate a commitment to exceptional standards of learning and student outcomes. Students graduating from our schools have been accepted by some of the world’s leading colleges and universities, including:

• Harvard University• Imperial College London• Johns Hopkins University• Massachusetts Institute of Technology• McGill University• New York University• Princeton University• University College London• University of Edinburgh• University of Oxford• University of Toronto

Beyond exams and university acceptances is the success we see in how our students grow and the individuals they become. They are inquisitive and resilient, excited about learning, and equipped with the skills to meet the complexities and opportunities of the future.

My son gets up in the morning excited to go to school and often says that he ‘loves to learn.’ Even within classes, teachers are able to tailor the instruction to the individual strengths and weaknesses of the child. A child who is good in mathematics has the chance to excel even if it outpaces their classmates. A child who has difficulty with a subject is given extra help to aid them in progressing with the rest of the class.

Our Educational ProgrammeWe use a unique combination of The International Primary Curriculum and National Curriculum for England with significant value placed on academics. This programme provides a proven, innovative framework for learning that is academically rigorous and develops the child’s personal and social skills. Throughout the world, these curricula are highly regarded for their exceptional standards, for developing a student driven focus on learning and as gateways to esteemed colleges and universities in the UK and around the world. Our educational programme enables seamless transition to other curricula including the CBSE programme. The concepts and skills are also highly transferable, helping students make an effective transition to schools anywhere.

We had no doubt that the academics at our school would be top-notch. However, what we are most impressed with is how excited our daughter is to go to school every day, and the special friendships she has made.

Flexible, Personalised Learning A personalised approach to learning is at the heart of every lesson at Compass International School, Al Khor. With our international cohort comes the responsibility to ensure that each child is receiving the guidance and help they need to gain the skills to be successful learners in all areas of the curriculum provided. Teachers develop individual learning plans and goals for each student, evaluate them at regular intervals, and adjust them as the student progresses. This approach ensures that each child attains or surpasses his or her expected potential. Teachers work together to make links between English and maths, science and art, creating connections across the curriculum. Within the classroom, different strategies (music, art or movement, for example) are used to help students understand the lesson in a way that works best for them.

This school is a very nurturing environment with individual attention provided for each child by genuinely caring & highly competent teachers. We could not be happier with our decision to send our daughter here.

International Primary Curriculum The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is a highly-respected, internationally-recognised curriculum used in over 1300 schools in more than 65 countries worldwide. Children in IPC schools are active participants in their education and true citizens of the world; they understand and appreciate other cultures, are encouraged to question and discover, and develop personal skills such as adaptability, thoughtfulness, and respect. They learn how to learn. They problem solve and think critically, looking towards a future in which what we know now will be vastly different from what we will know.

Rather than separating learning into specific subjects, the IPC integrates learning into units based around a central theme. Examples of themes include Rainforest, Getting Around (Transportation), Health and Fitness, and Treasure (Archaeology). Because children find these themes relevant and interesting, they are able to make meaningful connections between what they learn and the world around them. Each unit of study includes rigourous academic work, opportunities for creativity, and outlets for fun.

National Curriculum for EnglandCompass International School, Al Khor supplements the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) with the newly-redesigned National Curriculum for England. This broadly-based and balanced programme mirrors the learning philosophy of the IPC and focuses on specific areas. Literacy (English), Numeracy (maths), Information Communication Technology and science are explored extensively. Through these disciplines, students develop the learning, thinking, and social skills that provide the building blocks for successful lifelong learning.

Learning LanguagesFrom Year 1, children at Compass International School, Al Khor will have the opportunity to learn a foreign language. This early start in learning languages is reflective of our international philosophy and embedded in the curriculum we teach. To match the international make up of our cohort the languages taught will be Arabic, Hindi and French.

The Arts and TechnologyActivities such as art and design, early skills for music composition and technology are all well-integrated into each student’s school experience. From learning the basic skills of color mixing, design and problem solving, students gain both skills and confidence by exploring new areas of learning.

Music and performing arts provide avenues for children to explore their creativity. Whether learning an instrument or singing in a chorus, our students develop not only musical skills, but also an understanding of collaboration and teamwork. Students will also be provided with opportunities to participate in the performing arts, building upon presentation and role

play skills learned in the classroom.

Physical Education and Exploration Through movement, play and fun, our physical education programme helps children learn healthy habits and encourages them to lead active lifestyles. Activities in our sports gymnasium and large outdoor play areas promote development of essential motor and spatial skills, while our indoor soft play area is more suitable for personalised confidence building.

What sets our school apart is the incredibly strong central focus on academic excellence, as well as the extraordinary people – both teachers and students. The school manages to strike the perfect balance between vigorous intellectual inquisitiveness and down-to-earth friendliness.
