COMPARTMENT PRESENTATION ATLANTA FOREST MANAGEMENT UNIT COMPARTMENT 176 YEAR OF ENTRY: 2004 COUNTY: CHEBOYGAN ACRES:1856 REVIEW DATE: 08/15/2002 (Minor Revision 02/04/08 RPP) T36N, R1E, SECS.10 , 11, 13, & 14. Management Unit Goals and Key Value: Recreation, Wildlife, Timber. Soil and Topography: Sand & Gravel. Mostly flat but very steep in northeast corner. Ownership Pattern and Land Use around Compartment: Mostly state. A lot of private cottages along Black Lake. Natural Features: Black Mountain. Historical Features: None Special Management Considerations: Black Mountain Recreation Area Watershed and Fisheries Considerations: None Wildlife Habitat Objectives: (See comment sheets from Habitat Biologist.) Mineral Resource Development, Concerns, and Restrictions: Surface sediments consist of lacustrine (lake) sand and gravel, dune sand and coarse-textured glacial till. Glacial drift thickness varies between 100 and 600 feet. There is approximately 300 feet of local relief within the compartment. Beneath the glacial drift is the Devonian Detroit River Group, used for dolomite/stone. Gravel pits are located two miles to the north. There may be some gravel potential on Black Mountain. This area has had no drilling for oil and gas. Oil and gas producing Silurian Niagaran Reefs are located 20 miles to the southeast. None of the State land is leased for oil and gas development. Vehicular Access: Roads to be closed as shown on compartment map. Survey Needs and Trespasses: Private boundaries in Section 14 should be surveyed.

Public Recreation: Heavy recreation use of various types throughout the compartment. Public Use Problems: O.R.V. damage in many area from illegal operation. Red Pine Project Treating Stands 19 out of entry for Red Pine Project. Review Date: March 28, 2008.

Leave 20-30 BA (representative of all overstory species) through out the stand and leave 30-60 along recreation trails for visual. Summer Cut only to scarify the soil. Will accept any mix of Pine, Oak, Beech & Aspen for regen.
