• Usually if an adjective has one SYLLABLE and has a vowel (a,u,o) it will add an umlaut to it!

As you are well aware German is full of exceptions and you just need to learn

them as you go along.

Just add “ste” to the end of the adjective to make it “the most…”e.g. the most beautiful. (You need to know the gender of the item, either der, die or das.)

There are actually two ways of using the superlative: The first, we have already learnt:

e.g Bath ist die schönste Stadt Bath is the prettiest town.

However, if you want want to say - My town is the prettiest (no noun), it is formed slightly differently.

You add ‘(e)sten’ to the adjective and put ‘am’ in front of it! e.g Meine Stadt ist am schönsten.
