Message from the founder Chairman

I am humbled, the company I started 23 years ago with a limited agendahas turned into an IT power house. The real success was not only realizingthe goal to contribute in the overall IT industry offering products & services,more eminent was the human resource development, a significat outlayspread over two decades.

I am proud to see; almost all the big names from banks, telcos, energycompanies, public sector, state entities, defence, police, private or publiclimited companies and many MNCs in the country, on our client list. Severalvalued customers from the region, stretched from Jordan to Philpines,preferred our offerings. The real contentment however, is the dividend tonational economy in the shape of skilled human resource. Thousand ofprofessionals got trained, attained certifications, delivered projects for Ora-Tech Systems and then moved on to different verticals of businesses. I walktaller, every time some vaguely familiar face walks up in an IT setting inNew York, London or Dubai to greet me as an ex ‘Oratechian’ & recount theircurrent achievements!

Alongside business ventures and other contributions, OTS also focused onsome of low priority sectors for the goveronment, such as; health andeducation. Be it the largest hospital in the country or the prestigous nationaluniversity, OTS accepted challenges to develop and deliver affordable, end-to-end solutions, without any compromise on quality.

Whether IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, HP or Dell, we have support from all bigones to move-on to next higher steeps. Anticipating next generationsolutions, at pace with changing future trends we need to acquire diverseand niche experties to sustain growth. GIS solutions and mobile drivenfinancial services may turn out to be good initiatives to mark our 25th year inbusiness.

Oracle E-business Suite started asOracle Applications catering to the Busi-ness Application segment in 1987. Thiswas a time when JD Edwards, BAAN,SAP, PeopleSoft were already estab-lished ERP players in their specific mar-ket segments and any new business ap-plication had to face a tough challengefrom the existing players. Oracle Startedmodestly with Financial applications andmoved on to Inventory, Procurementand much later in Manufacturing andHRMS applications.

Today Oracle has more than 100 appli-cations by virtue of it’s own develop-ment team and aggressive acquisitionschedule. Oracle is becoming the num-ber one ERP player in market after theacquisitions of PeopleSoft, JD Edwards,SIEBEL, PORTAL etc.

Regulatory reporting is an absolutelyvital function in the world of finance.Understanding the need for timelyregular reporting the State Bank ofPakistan has, since 2002 been instru-mental in converting from a paperbased reporting system to a fully digi-talized on-line portal based reportingstructure.

The State Bank coined the new digi-tally based returns Reporting Chart ofAccounts (RCOA) and moved toimplement a system whereby data wasto be digitally collected from Banks,Financial Development Institutionsand Micro Finance Institutions bymandate. This has, over the last fewyears completed replaced what wereknown as State Bank returns.

Ora-Tech understood the problemsthat financial institutions were goingto face in early 2005, since the newRCOA was not only going to replaceexisting SBP returns but the new for-mat was going to require definition ofthe chart of accounts when it came toinstitutions reporting to the StateBank of Pakistan.

The real problem Ora-Tech Systemsunderstood, was that organizationswere using Core Banking solutionsdeveloped on international bankingstandards and to provide reportingfrom these applications would requireheavy customization. The only alter-native was going through the motionsof continually using spread sheets andextracting figures report by report notto mention the tedious process ofcompiling them.

Red hat Linux introduced it’s product in2001 to the South Asian market. Sincethen, they have consistently grown to bethe single largest provider of EnterpriseLevel Linux software products in theworld. As Enterprise level softwareevolved over the late 90’s, it becameimmediately apparent to Red Hat andenterprise users everywhere that a stableOS environment was the highest priori-ty as dependency on IT as a departmentto run mission critical applications in-creased dramatically.

While Microsoft has attempted over theyears to scale it’s Operating System linesto cater to the demands of enterpriselevel setups, it simply could not com-pete with Linux and it’s secure architec-ture which ensured a virtually virus freeand spy ware free environment.
