Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 7:32 PM on June 16, 2011

Attendance: Dennis Devitt, Norm Atkins, Gloria Atkins, and Mary Ann Devitt - Deputy Shehee and 8 members

POLICE REPORT - Deputy Shehee reported two thefts in Butterfield East and advised that we should call the Sheriff's

Department to report any dogs running and unleashed.

The minutes were approved as presented in the April newsletter

TREASURER'S REPORT - Mary Ann Devitt gave the report as follows:

Checking Account $7,351.05

Money Market 5,211.99

CD 7,707.00

CD 4,601.70

Total $24,871.74

COMMITTEES

Membership - We have 270 paid members at the present time. Last year at this time, the total was 215.

Keep Butterfield Beautiful - Five letters were sent out to homeowners asking for their cooperation in maintaining their property.

Entrance Sign - We are still having problems obtaining a permit from DuPage County. We must apply for a variance to obtain a

permit. Therefore, we voted to allocate up to $1,000 for the permit.

Picnic Committee - There was a vote to jointly organize the annual picnic with the Fountain of Life Church on August 21. More

details will follow. A vote was also taken to spend up to $600.00 for the picnic.

Web Site - Dennis encouraged members to use the website www.myBHOA.com. While a newsletter is mailed out every other

month to paid members, there is an e-letter posted on the website every month.

NEW BUSINESS

We will try to have guest speakers at our meetings.

We will get bids for small signs advising of BHOA meeting dates and possible speakers.

Plans are under way to have a Pet Parade sometime in September. Details to follow.

OLD BUSINESS

There is concern as to the lack of advertisers in our newsletter, which defray the expense of printing and mailing the newsletter.

Mary Ann Devitt won dinner at Carlucci’s. The next meeting will be on August 18. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:25.

Respectfully submitted,

Gloria Atkins

Norm and Gloria have a new addition to their household. Rose, a two year old part terrier, was found pregnant and abandoned

and was rescued by REF. She gave birth to 7 puppies and was a very good mother. Norm and Gloria noticed Rose at Petsmart

and fell in love with her. They started adoption procedures and, on May 30, she moved into their home and has been happy ever

since.

Beautiful Butterfield

If you see a home that has tall grass and weeds (over 8”) that need to be mowed, please call Milton

Township at 630-668-1616. There is a Township ordinance (O-98-3) that states homeowners must keep

grass and weeds under control. If they do not, the township will first notify the homeowner. If no action

is taken, the township will clean up the property and charge the homeowner for the cleanup.

It is up to all of us to keep our community “Beautiful Butterfield”.

Speak Out

Email [email protected] to submit items for the next Speak Out section.

We in the Butterfield East sub-division are extremely lucky that we have sidewalks. Many

unincorporated areas don’t.

With sidewalks, it becomes our responsibility to keep them up so we and our neighbors can use them

safely. One thing we need to do is keep bushes and trees trimmed so people can walk on the sidewalk

without getting scratched or poked. Another thing is not block walkways with vehicles. It is a violation

of the law. I can think of many ways to spend $25 instead of paying off a ticket.

Even though we may not see them, handicapped people have a difficult time when you block the

walkways. Children, dog walkers, and mothers with strollers also have difficulty when they have to go

around your vehicle. It is also dangerous if pedestrians are forced into the street to go around your

vehicle.

The last thing I might mention is that the finish on your vehicle could be scratched accidentally when a

child on a tricycle or with a rolling book bag tries to go around.
