Biography

Yanbu Steel Company is a part of MIDROC Group Company. We are a leading designer,

fabricator and constructor of above ground/underground steel storage tanks, pressure vessels,

columns, spheres, silos, hoppers, structural steel, and evaporators in the Middle East. We offer

a comprehensive range of engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction services for

the downstream oil & gas industry, with a focus on Refinery process units, Petrochemical and

Chemical facilities, Gasification plants, Hydrogen generating plants, Sulfur processing plants,

Heat transfer equipment, Water Desalination and Cement Industries.

With over 30 years we have had the experience and expertise of working with more than

1,500 multinational employees, Yanbu Steel Company provides reliable solutions, while

maintaining a relentless focus on safety and an uncompromising standard of quality. The

headquarters and major production facilities are located in Yanbu, Western region Saudi

Arabia, with site teams working as required nationally.

The modern fabrication shop is one of the largest fabrication shops in Saudi Arabia, with total

facility area of 143,440 square meter consisting of twenty thousand square meters of fully

equipped covered workshops, a state of the art, environmental compliant, sixteen hundred

square meter blasting and painting facility; and open yard facilities allowing Yanbu Steel

Company to fabricate heavy and large vessels, and medium to heavy steel structures and

perform work in accordance with various international standards including ASME Section I,

Section VIII Div 1 & 2, NBIC, API 510, API650, API 620, API 653, API 12F, UL 142, UL58, NFPA 22

and AWWA. The facility is ISO 9001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 accredited, and holds

Certificates of Authorization from ASME (“U”, “U2” “R” and “S” part). The fabrication shop has

the capability to mass-produce up to twenty five thousand metric tons per annum.

Yanbu Steel Company has carried out some of the most prestigious projects in the Kingdom of

Saudi Arabia for Saudi ARAMCO, Saudi Strategic Storage Program, SABIC, MARAFIQ, SWCC,

LUBEREF, SAMREF, YASREF, TASNEE, SATORP, JUPC with multinational companies like Enppi,

Fluor, JACOBS, KBR, Technip, UHDE, Shaw stone & Webster, Worley Parsons, Bechtel, Samsung

Engineering, SKEC, Daelim, CTCI Corp, SINOPEC.

Yanbu Steel Company constructed the largest diameter Dome Roof tank for YASREF using roof

air raising method, which is the largest of its kind in the world.

Fabrication Workshops and Site Capability

The fabrication workshops have been designed and equipped to provide Yanbu Steel Company

with the flexibility to produce a multitude of products ranging from structural steel works

through heavy vessels and tanks etc.

The Main Workshop is primarily used for all core fabrications, it consists of three bays each

served by overhead cranes and is fully equipped.

In addition to the main workshops, separate workshops have been designed and equipped to

meet special requirements

• Light Work Shop

Fabrication facilities are complimented by the light workshop which is used principally

for the manufacture of ladders, hand rails, platforms and other secondary structures.

• Stainless Steel Shop

An exclusive workshop for special requirements of Stainless steel handling and

fabrications, fully equipped with cranes and welding equipments exclusive for the use

with stainless steel materials.

• Open Yard Fabrication capability

Yanbu Steel Company has an open yard facility equipped with tower cranes, enables

fabrication of large vessels, columns and tanks.

Surface preparation and Painting Capability

The Painting area includes a state of the art, environmental compliant, sixteen hundred square

meter blasting and painting facility. These workshops are fully enclosed and inter-linked to

provide an efficient flow of materials from raw material feed to final completed material

dispatch.

Yanbu Steel Company’s surface preparation and painting facilities include automatic shot-

blasting machines, manual blast-cleaning and covered paint cells serviced by gantry cranes.

Welding Capability

Yanbu Steel Company generally uses the following welding procedures:

• Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) using low hydrogen and iron powder electrodes

• Flux cored arc welding (FCAW) using the self-shielding method in semi-automatic mode

• Submerged arc welding (SMAW) in automatic and semi-automatic modes

• Gas metal arc welding (GMAW)

Yanbu Steel Company is also experienced in other processes such as tungsten-arc, gas metal-arc

and electro slag welding. Our welders are qualified to ASME IX, and AWS D1.1.

Yanbu Steel Company has a fully equipped welding school which enables the company to train,

test and qualify welders as and when needed. Welders are qualified through ASME IX, AWS

D1.1

Engineering Capability

Yanbu Steel Company employs a group of experienced design engineers and skilled AUTOCADD,

Micro Station and TEKLA Structures draftsmen to furnish detailed designs for a variety of steel

products and turnkey works. The engineering staff has a full working knowledge of industry

codes and design standards such as API, ASME, PIP and also familiar with Saudi Aramco & SABIC

specifications.

The use of state of the art technology in the engineering of every job including highly

specialized software like ANSYS, PV Elite, COADECALC, COADE TANK, MathCAD, eTank, Solid

works, STADD Pro, AutoCAD, Micro station and TEKLA structures, has been a key element in

Yanbu Steel Company's success.

Yanbu Steel Company also has a subsidiary company in India (YSC Engineering Services

PVT.LTD), to support the head office design activities.

Yanbu Steel Company has an in-house engineering capability, complete with computerized

drawing office, supporting a core business supplying steel storage tanks (carbon steel, stainless

steel, alloy steel, clad plate etc.; shop-built and site erected; all sizes, all types including spheres

and cryogenic), pressure vessels and columns (ASME VIII division I & II), chimney stacks,

silos/bins/hoppers, piping and heavy structural steel.

Project Management

The goal of Yanbu Steel Company is to provide the Client with a product that:

• Meets the required quality standard as laid down in the contract specification.

• Is delivered in accordance with the budget and schedule.

To meet these aims, an effective project management team has been established, The

Company’s team approach and problem solving ability allows it to react promptly and

effectively to complex job requirements and demanding schedules, headed by the Manager

Projects, to oversee all aspects of the contract from award to final handover. The various

activities of this team include:

• Taking “possession” of the contract and ensuring that the Contract requirements

are clearly understood by all parties.

• Establishing the Quality requirements and, where deemed necessary, producing

contract specific Quality documentation in place of the general Quality

documents.

• Developing the Contract schedule making use of up to date computer aided

project planning packages (PRIMAVERA) to establish the sequence of work and

resources required to successfully complete the work within the constraints of

the Contract.

• Controlling and coordinating activities throughout the various phases of the

contract to ensure progress is in line with the budget and the program.

Establishing clear lines of communication between YSC, the Client and the

Client’s representatives, suppliers and subcontractors, to enable any changes,

queries or deviations from the specification to be efficiently communicated to

relevant parties.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control Capability

Yanbu Steel Company operates a quality management system in accordance with BS EN ISO

9001:2015, which ensures that services and products conform to the Client’s specified

requirements. BSI has certified Yanbu Steel Company’s quality management system for

compliance with BS EN ISO 9001: 2015.

Yanbu Steel Company holds ASME “U” “U2” and “S” part Code Symbol stamps from the

American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In addition, Yanbu Steel Company holds an “R” Code

Symbol stamp from the National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors, thereby

authorizing the company to manufacture and repair pressure vessels to ASME VIII Div 1 & 2.

Copies of the relevant approval/authorization certificates are enclosed.

Quality Assurance Procedures and Work Instructions are being used as controlling documents

on the shop floor and routinely used for the compliance with specification and quality plan

requirements.

YSC permits clients to carry out QA Audit during order execution. Sub suppliers and sub

contractors are assessed for approval and selection by performance and product evaluation.

Procurement of materials is in accordance with client’s specification and requirements. Weld

Procedures and Welder Qualifications generally performed under the surveillance of a

recognized independent inspectorate.
