CP SYSTEM DESIGN
Supporting EPC Contractors
Turnkey Cathodic Protection ProjectsAs an experienced cathodic protection company, approved by most of the major operators, we are in a
strong position to give EPC contractors the advantage of our experience in validating cathodic protec-
tion system designs and ensuring lowest possible installed cost: this can be done as part of a tendering
process.
Seamless IntegrationWe are acutely aware that design and schedule issues are vitally important when integrating cathodic
protection packages into EPC projects. We adopt a rigorous design and project management approach
and work closely with EPC contractors to make sure that our cathodic protection systems are success-
fully integrated into our client’s overall project.
Fast Track Accurate ExecutionWe can reduce the delivery period for critical equipment thanks to our expertise in cathodic protection
system design, our strong supplier relationships and in house manufacturing capability. These advan-
tages mean our design of both cathodic protection systems and the overall plant can be more devel-
oped before material orders are confirmed. This reduces errors in construction and improves opera-
tional integrity.
Design ConsultancyWe can also perform site surveys and basic cathodic protection system designs that produce well de-
fined project scope documents for efficient cathodic protection project tendering and execution.
Supporting Operators
Supporting Operational FacilitiesOur team of experienced engineers and technicians travel worldwide to determine corrosion preven-
tion requirements. Following detailed site surveys, they deliver comprehensive proposals that define
the full project scope and implementation plan. On existing plants we offer comprehensive operational

Cathodic protection for In Plant Piping
In Plant PipingWe supply Cathodic Protection to protect carbon steel and stainless steel buried in plant piping from
corrosion and as a powerful secondary defence to factory and field applied coatings.
Planning the Ideal In Plant Piping CP SystemDamage to pipelines coatings occur during movement, installation or simply general coating deteriora-
tion leaving exposed areas that can only be protected by CP.
As in plant piping can vary from short sections of pipe to long runs of complex piping, and whether in
small stations or large production facilities, we offer site surveys and detailed design to make sure you
have the optimum CP system for your needs.
Our CP systems take into consideration:Isolation
Coating system applied
Age of pipeline/coating system
Soil type and corrosivity
Plant congestion
Pipeline routing
In-line valves or take-offs
Power availability
We supply a range of CP systems, to meet your environment and factors. As a rule of thumb however,
we can supply for the following circumstances:

Characteristics Possible Systems
Small pipeline sections Sacrificial
Short well coated pipes Sacrificial

New pipelines Close anode wire
Retrofit Multi Deepwells or distributed close anode
Types of systems available:Impressed: Close anode systems
Advantages:
It maximises the anode’s effect regardless of isolation
DisadvantagesThe design is subject to piping layout
Semi remote distributed ground beds:Advantages:
Simple wiring
Disadvantages:Several deep boreholes are needed
Expensive drilling
Limited effect over plant
Piping must be isolated
SacrificialMagnesium anodes are typically used on short piping runs and fire hydrants. All piping must be iso-
lated. Typically anode cables are connected through test stations for monitoring purposes. For hydrants
a test station is not considered necessary.
For Permanent Protection:“Packaged” 27kg (med potential) magnesium anodes. These are buried 2m from the pipeline and
connected to a test cable above ground for monitoring purposes in a test facility. Life – 10-15 years.
Recommendation: We recommend two anodes are installed at any one location, as distribution cover-
age can be limited. The number of anodes you need to protect pipeline depends on its characteristics.
Older pipelines typically need more CP, with more test stations with higher potential (-1-7v) anodes.
For Temporary Protection:Small magnesium anodes or zinc anodes. These can be circular or ‘d’ shaped ingots or ribbon anodes
to suit the construction choice. Ingots are easier to install at test point locations however ribbon are

PETUNIA’S smart Cathodic Protection for well casing
The issuesCorrosion of well casings is a serious concern. Well casings are usually cemented for the purpose of
anchoring the casing in the borehole. Poor cementation can lead to bare steel casing being exposed
to surrounding soil. Lectrochemical cells can form which lead to active corrosion sites and eventually to
penetration of the external casing, allowing water to enter through to the annulus, leading to expensive
repairs and production downtime.
We base our CP systems on your needs and your environment
Number of wells, geometry and location of well casings to protect
Ground conditions, water Salinity
Cementing practices
Formation resistivities
Electrical grounding
Pipelines and flowlines and whether or not to isolate
Soil resistivity
Future development The quantity and CP layout can only be established by site survey.
Typical Cathodic Protection systemPower supply unit with Deepwell borehole groundbed located 100-200 metres from the well casings.
Other available systems:One of our Cathodic Protection systems can protect well clusters and multi CP systems can rotect com-
plex sites. Each require detailed design and forethought.

High Silicon Cast Iron
The excellent quality of the ferrosilicon anodes is ensured by the manufacturing with induction melting
procedure in a semiautomatic plant which precludes the possibility of metal contamination and guar-
antees the equal distribution of elements in the end-product.
The anodes are manufactured either by mould casting or by traditional sand casting procedures using
strict regulations. The outstanding corrosion resistivity and other favorable characteristics are the result
of the manufacturing procedure and this makes the ferrosilicon anodes internationally recognized for
corrosion protection systems.

Flange Insulating Gasket Kits
Flange insulating kits for metallic pipelines are available for all flange sizes, types, pressure ratings and
materials.
Flange insulating kits are commonly installed at each end of a pipeline to electrically isolate the pipe for
other buried foreign metallic structures and plant grounding systems therefore limiting the amount of
cathodic protection current required to protect the pipeline.
PETUNIA manufactures and maintains a supply of quality products and materials which can help pre-
venting leakage, preventing corrosion, and saving the integrity of the pipeline.
Not only understands the importance of delivering a timely and technically competent service, our
rapid delivery options and flexible logistics systems can provide you with considerable savings.
Through our in depth knowledge of the market, products, applications, production, logistics and infra-
structure, we are the ideal service partner in the field of insulating gaskets.

Rubber Faced Phenolic gaskets
These kind of gaskets have been used as standard “flat” isolating gaskets in the oil and gas industries
for many years. Soft neoprene rubber sheets are factory applied to both sides of a laminated phenolic
retainer providing an effective sealing surface.
The temperature limit of these gaskets is approximately 80 ºC.
Flat gaskets are used in special applications such as elevated temperatures that often require high tem-
perature materials.
Please contact us for additional information on available options.
Insulating Gasket Sets
Isolating and Sealing Gaskets:
Type E
Type E is a full-faced gasket with the same outside diameter as the flange and precision cut bolt holes.
This design facilitates proper alignment of the gasket during installation and foreign material is pre-
vented from shorting the flange insulation. Type E gaskets are available in plain face or Neoprene face
phenolic, as well as a variety of high temperature materials. y g p
Type F
Type F gaskets are made to fit the raised face portion of the flange only. As there are no bolt holes in the
F gasket, the inside diameter of the bolt hole circle is slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the
gasket, assuring an exact, automatic positioning of the gasket. These are available in the same materials
as the type E gasket.
