Loading the ComPair Program

1. Place the CD ROM in the CD drive.2. Go to windows explorer and click the CD Drive.3. Click on Setup.

OR1. Select RUN in windows.2. Type “CD Drive:\ComPair\Setup”

Note: “CD Drive” is the letter of the CD drive; E for example.

LOADING CHASSIS

1. After entering Compair, Select File and then Open.

2. Select the TV chassis.

3. Turn the Compair unit On.

4. Turn the TV set On.

5. Select Quick Test and Continue to establish communication with the set. A “C” will appear in the upper right hand cornerof the screen to indicate that the set is in the ComPair mode.

Note: Once the ComPair is connected to the set, no othercommands except power On should be given to theset via the Front Keyboard or Remote.

TV WELCOME SCREEN

1. STRUCTURED DIAGNOSTICS - Step by step troubleshooting.

2. QUICK TEST - Places the set in the ComPair mode. A “C” willappear in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

3. ALIGNMENTS - Allows for the changing of Drives, Geometry,AGC, and Option Bytes.

FTV1.9 ComPair OPERATION

1. Connect ComPair to the Computer and Display panel on AVC34. See Page 12 for AVC34 location. See TV section forinstructions on loading and opening ComPair.

2. Turn the Computer On, Open ComPair, and select FTV1.9D.

3. Make sure the ComPair box IR sen-sor points at the LEDon the set.

4. Turn the Set On and select the AV1 input.5. Click on the Communication Icon.

6. Select Quick Test, then Continue to access test patterns.7. Select Structured Diagnostics to troubleshoot the set.

Using ComPair with the CDR

The following CDRs will work with ComPair:

CDR570, CDR770, CDR775, CDR930, and CDR950

With ComPair it is possible to:

Check Software versionCheck Mechanics (Disc Loader, Slider, Focus)Point-to-point troubleshootingPerform necessary alignments.

If the CDM Unit or Loader assembly is replaced, the CDR must bealigned using ComPair.

To align the CDR, the following is required:

Compair CDR Interface40 Volt DC supply.1K ohm, 1% tolerance resistor (4822 050 21002).Voltmeter

Connect this cable toConnector 1818 on theCDR board.

Connect this cable to thePC’s Com port 1.

Set Switch to the Outposition.

After making any selection that communicateswith the CDR, switch the CDR Off and On.When Compair communicates with the unit,the box above will disappear. The front panelof the CDR will blank.

To perform the Laser Alignment adjustment, connect a 40 voltsupply in series with a 1K, 1%, resistor to Testpoint 11 on theRecord Deck PCB. Refer to the instructions in ComPair and theService Manual for additional detail.
