UHTC Kandangally was started on February 20th, 2010. It is located 3km away from Kandangally higher secondary school and 13km from ACME , Pariyaram.

UHTC, KANDANGALLY was started with the following purposes:

• To function as a health organization to specifically cater to the issues of urban community of Kandangally.

• To function as a training centre for medical interns, students and health staff.

• To promote the principle of safe health in the urban community of Kandangally.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE

UHTC is located in an urban area.

Display boards of services and facilities with timings along with important contact numbers are present. Layout map and local information in vernacular are present. There is adequate accesses to the facility. Sign boards are present at strategic locations to guide patients to the facility.

Fencing around the compound is present.

24/7 availability of electricity , water is available.

Adequate drainage system is available.

Separate room for core staff-medical officer, dentist, nurse and pharmacist are present.

Ear marked areas for- OPD, waiting area , pharmacy , store room , toilets and laboratory are present.

We have a lab that has facilities for GRBS, FBS, PPBS, urine RE, Blood RE. For other investigations the specimens are collected and brought to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.

Pharmacy is available for providing continuous supply of essential drugs.

A vehicle with driver is available for transport.

Adequate stationary for written communication are present.

Campaigns for national health program in the form of wall paintings/ boards are present.

SERVICES PROVIDED

PREVENTIVE SERVICES

Health education classes were provided at Anganwadi and Kudumbasree meetings. Various classes on children’s health, hygiene, healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, nutrition, adolescent health and lifestyle diseases have been taken.

Periodic house visits were started in August, 2016 and are continued .A family folder is being maintained at Kandangally and details regarding family, members, their demographic details, housing, environment, sanitation, acute and chronic diseases, immunization status, eligible couple, family planning services utilization and addictions were recorded.

BMI and Blood pressure of all persons at home were measured and health education regarding life style modification (LSM) for NCD was carried out.

Prehypertensives were identified through family visits and given health education regarding LSM. They were motivated to come to UHTC for regular follow up. Phone follow up was also being carried out.

People with addictions of alcohol or tobacco in any form were identified through family survey and were given individual counseling and motivation to curtail those unhealthy habits.

Full immunization as per National Immunisation Schedule of all children was ensured.

Detailed geriatric examination was carried out at homes including medical examination, assessment of depression and activities of daily living (ADL).

Through family visits, it was recognized that plastic was mainly disposed by burning. Each such family was councelled about the health hazards of burning plastic and encouraged to adopt safer methods of disposal.

These activities are being continued without fail.

The honourable Member of Parliament, Mrs. Sreemathi laid foundation for “PAKALVEEDU” in the UHTC compound on 8-3-17, with the aim of providing a recreation and resting centre for geriatric people. It was organized with a view to reduce incidence of depression and loneliness in old people left alone at home and to engage them in social activities. A cultural centre is also being planned with facilities for library, tennis court nearby. The project is expected to be established in one year.

CURATIVE SERVICES

• There is a fully functioning OPD with 2 medical officers where all cases are managed effectively. A dentist is also available for patients coming with dental problems.

• A regular, continuous supply of drugs is being provided free of cost.

• A Lab that has facilities for GRBS, FBS, PPBS, urine RE, Blood RE and other investigations is available. For certain specific investigations, the specimens are collected and brought to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.

• Home visits were done in this period, for examination and treatment of sick and bedridden patients. They were given counseling and motivation for early return of activities of daily living (ADL) and social life.

Through family visits during this period, people with undiagnosed medical conditions like hypertension were identified and provided treatment and health education. People who were already on hypertensive medication were checked if their B.P was under control and given advice for better lifestyle modification- correction of wrong food habits, myths, misconcepts and modification of drugs if necessary.

• Stress was given on reduction of overweight and obesity which was also found in the population of Kandangally as revealed in the family survey.

OTHERS

Disease outbreak identification, incidence reporting, investigation, data collection, analysis and reporting is done on a regular basis.

Training for Undergraduates and Postgraduates is being given.

Referral services are available. Patients are referred to CHC, Pazhayangadi or Pariyaram Medical College. A vehicle with driver is available for transport.

OPD Register, laboratory service register, community activity register, roster for doctors and staff, stock register and equipment register are present.

All records are computerized for accurate record maintenance.

Other activities like free spectacle distribution to poor patients, drug distribution etc were also being carried out.

WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY

MAY 17th 2018

The community Medicine department of ACME, Pariyaram in collaboration

with Kandangali development committee, library council& Nagas

club ,observed the World Hypertension Day at Urban Health Training centre

Kandangali on May 17th .The theme for this years World Hypertension Day

was “Know your Numbers with a goal of increasing high blood preasure

awareness in all populations”. The function, which was inaugurated by

Payyanur municipal Chairman, Adv.Sasi Vattakkovval, was presided our by

the ward councillor, Mrs.Praseetha P.K (Ward -21).The welcome address was

given by the Prof & HOD. Dept.of Community Medicine, ACME, Pariyaram, Dr.

A K Jayasree. Dr.Balakrishnan Valliyottu, professor, Department of General

Medicine, ACME, Pariyaram gave an elaborate talk on hypertension &its

complications Mrs.Preetha, ward councillor (26 ward) gave felicitates for the

programme. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. T V Narayanan, Secretary,

Kandangali development committee. After the inaugural ceremony, a Street

play, depicting the causes of complications of hypertension was performed by

the final year MBBS students of ACME, Pariyaram (2014 Batch)

This was followed by a BP Screening Camp at the centre; where screening

for hypertension, calculation of BMI & free medications were given to around

80 patients. The camp concluded at 1 PM the same day

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY OBSERVATION

The Community Medicine department of Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, in collaboration with Kandangali Development Committee, Library and Nagas Club, GHSS NSS and SPC Students, observed the World Environment Day, 2018 at Urban Health Centre Kandangali on June 5th, 2018(Tuesday).

The function which was inaugurated by Payyanur Municipal Chairman, Adv. Sasi Vattakovval, was presided over by the Ward Counsellor, Mrs. Usha Damodharan (ward 20) The welcome address was given by the Prof & HOD, Dept of Community Medicine, Dr. A K Jayasree. Shri. C K P Padmanabhan, former M.L.A gave an elaborate talk on the need for safeguarding the environment. A poem on nature was sung by the PG students of Dept of Community Medicine. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Shanoj K (Secretary, Nagas Club). The occasion was graced by the presence of other ward counsellors, SPC co-ordinator and NSS Programme Officer. This was followed by planting of 1000 saplings in the houses around the Urban Health Centre, Kandangali.
