It’s true, the Historic Northwest is seeing a lot of activity these days!

Historic Northwest Rising (HNWR) is a bold project that is shaping the revitalization of the Sunset Lounge and the surrounding com-munity with your help!

The renovation of the Sunset Lounge and improvements to the open park space, south of the Lounge, are getting started. With more attention focused on the Historic Northwest neighborhood, we wanted to address the concerns of the people who live and work in the community. The city created an ongoing series of com-munity conversations to keep the focus on neighborhood residents and the issues that mean the most to them.

On April 22, 2017 at the annual Heart and Soul Fest, community members shared their ideas about how to improve the neigh-borhood. Some of the ideas that residents tested included new

businesses, outdoor concerts, community BBQ, plants and greenery, and a kid’s imagination playground.

In June 2017 the final report of the HNWR projects was created. The CRA will use the findings and recommendations of this report to guide the planning and design of the Sunset Lounge and park.

The Sunset will be under renovation from Fall 2017 to Winter 2019. During this time, community partners will continue to play an important role in the project, whether it’s by providing additional feedback on the development process and/or assist with the com-munity art project in the park.
