What Data Have We Gathered?
Community Workshops• Quantitative (how many people feel this way?)
• Qualitative (what characteristics do we like?)
• Spatial (where is the opportunity?)
Outside Sources• Existing Conditions (what’s happening? what exists?)
• Demographics (who is here?)• 2017 Community Survey
Our process tries to approach issues through many lenses.
Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 12
How The Community Survey Was Conducted• Citizen survey committee with assistance from UVA’s Center for Survey Research
• Focused on areas in and around Crozet
• 2/3rds “inside” (green), 1/3rd “outside” (yellow)
• “Inside” roughly corresponds to the designated growth area for Crozet
Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 13
How The Community Survey Was ConductedTwo samples: • Scientific: representative, mail-out, reminders (N=701) • Volunteer: opt-in, various ways to participate (N=592)
• Scientific sample carries about a ±4% margin of error.
• Field dates: June-August 2017
Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 14
Community Survey Question Themes
• Demographics & Residency (where do you live? who lives in your household? how long have you lived here?)
• Planning Issues (how important are these issues to you? do you favor or oppose this principle?)
• Consumer Habits (where do you go, and how often? how important are these types of stores & services?)
• Recreation & Local Events (how important are these recreational opportunities? which events did you attend?)
• Resident Preferences (which aspects are important to a “small town feel”? why do you choose to live in Crozet?)
Tonight, we’re building the Master Plan’s framework.
