What Data Have We Gathered?

Community Workshops• Quantitative (how many people feel this way?)

• Qualitative (what characteristics do we like?)

• Spatial (where is the opportunity?)

Outside Sources• Existing Conditions (what’s happening? what exists?)

• Demographics (who is here?)• 2017 Community Survey

Our process tries to approach issues through many lenses.

How The Community Survey Was Conducted• Citizen survey committee with assistance from UVA’s Center for Survey Research

• Focused on areas in and around Crozet

• 2/3rds “inside” (green), 1/3rd “outside” (yellow)

• “Inside” roughly corresponds to the designated growth area for Crozet

Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 13

How The Community Survey Was ConductedTwo samples: • Scientific: representative, mail-out, reminders (N=701) • Volunteer: opt-in, various ways to participate (N=592)

• Scientific sample carries about a ±4% margin of error.

• Field dates: June-August 2017

Community Survey Question Themes

• Demographics & Residency (where do you live? who lives in your household? how long have you lived here?)

• Planning Issues (how important are these issues to you? do you favor or oppose this principle?)

• Consumer Habits (where do you go, and how often? how important are these types of stores & services?)

• Recreation & Local Events (how important are these recreational opportunities? which events did you attend?)

• Resident Preferences (which aspects are important to a “small town feel”? why do you choose to live in Crozet?)

Guiding Principles & Goals

Using this data, staff has outlined a series of proposed “Guiding Principles” - vision statements - and

“Goals/Focus Areas” - topics for future discussion.

We want to hear your feedback on how well they capture your vision, and which topics we need to focus on during

Phase 2.

Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 19

Connectivity

Connectivity is how people move around their community.

Create a multimodal transportation network that is safe and accessible for all residents, regardless of age, race, income, and ability.

Page 20: Community Workshop #3 | November 7, 2019 · Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 8 Phase 2: January - May 2020 • Design the Master Plan’s policies and projects with the community

Community Workshop #3 | 11/7/2019 | 20

Character

Character is about the unique qualities of a place.

Support Crozet’s “small town” character through development that is compatible in scale and design, offers housing choice, and

respects its history.

Conservation

Conservation is thoughtful planning for recreation, greenways, and natural resources.

Enhance Crozet’s natural beauty and the surrounding rural areas with an integrated

network of parks and gathering spaces, trails, and greenways that support outdoor

recreation and natural resource conservation.
