COMMUNITY MEETING NOTICEOn Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. – noon, we will hold a Community Meeting along with the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) to discuss results from a four year environmental study.

Why was this study completed?This work has been done to meet the requirements of an agreement (or a Consent Decree) between Pepco and DOEE that was approved by the U.S. District Court in December of 2011. The agreement created a process called the Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS).

The study included planning, testing, and analyzing samples from the Pepco Benning Service Center, located at 3400 Benning Rd. NE (including the former Benning Power Plant site) and adjacent portions of the Anacostia River to determine whether and to what extent the facility operations have contributed to contamination of land and adjacent portions of the river. A limited human health assessment was conducted as well.

What will be discussed during the meeting?A summary of the testing results and findings will be presented, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments. All community members are encouraged to review the full draft RI/FS report (see websites below) before attending. Comments will be accepted until April 18.

AVISO DE REUNIÓN DE LA COMUNIDADEl sábado, 18 de Abril 2016 entre 10 a.m. hasta el mediodía, se llevará a cabo una reunión de la comunidad junto con el Departamento de Energía y Medio Ambiente del Distrito De Columbia (DOEE) para analizar los resultados de un estudio ambiental que tomo cuatro años.

¿Por qué se ha completado este estudio? Este trabajo fue realizado para cumplir con los requisitos de un acuerdo (o de un decreto de consentimiento) entre Pepco y DOEE que fueaprobado por el Tribunal de Distrito de los Estados Unidos enDiciembre de 2011.

El acuerdo creo un proceso llamado la Investigación Correctiva y el Estudio de Viabilidad (RI/FS en Ingles).

El estudio incluido la planificación, verificación y análisis de muestras del centro de servicio de Pepco Benning, ubicado en el 3400 del Benning Road, NE (incluyendo el antiguo emplazamiento de la planta de energía de Benning) y porciones adyacentes al río Anacostia; para determinar en qué medida y si las operaciones de la instalación han contribuido a la contaminación de la tierra y de las porciones adyacentes al río. Además, se realizó un estudio de evaluación limitado de la salud humana.

¿Que se discutirá durante la reunión? Se presentará un resumen de los resultados de las pruebas y las conclusiones del estudio. Las personas asistentes tendrán la oportunidad de hacer preguntas y someter comentarios. Invitamos a todos los miembr rme de RI/FS (vea las páginas de internet al final de este documento) antes de asistir. Se aceptarán comentarios hasta el 18 de Abril.
