Late Arrival A friendly reminder if a student is late for school i.e arrives to school after the bell has gone he/she must come into the office to advice that they have arrived. Summer Soiree 2018 Well done to everyone who has taken up learning an instrument recently. Great effort to those how’ve kept up their practice. It’s time to celebrate and share what you’ve been doing. Everyone who is learning an instrument is invited to perform at the Summer Soiree Thursday 13 December 4:45pm in the JLC space. You can collect a form from the office. Please let me know if you are learning an instrument outside school and interested and I can get in contact with your instructor. Perform one piece that you are comfortable with or that you are particularly happy with!. I’m keen to get the forms back early so I can create concert sets if necessary. Also, I can let you know which set you’ll be performing in. Please invite friends and family. Good luck and I hope enjoy the concert! gram will be an oppor-tunity for the grade ones to see the life of chickens begin, and learn how to care for living animals. We are so lucky to be able to offer this learning opportunity to the students, al-lowing them to write, draw, investigate, and explore all about chickens and how they live. Because it will be so busy, and the chicks are only tiny, for that fortnight there will be no soft starts in the JLC. You are more than welcome to come and have a look at the chicks after school, when we will keep the build-ing open until 3.45pm. At the end of the program (Friday 26 October), the chickens will be available for adoption by any of our Elwood community. If you are at all interested please let any of the Grade 1 teachers know by the Thursday or email [email protected] and we will give you some more information about this. Below are a couple of tips about how to care for baby chicks! Prepare enough space – These little chicks are not little for long, so prepare a space for when they are young and then for when they are old enough to be transferred outside. Full grown chickens need just under 1 square metre each inside the coop. Schedule – When these chicks come home they need constant care. They will need water straight away. You will need to keep an eye on them to make sure they know where their food and water is. They need to be checked at least 5 times a day for the first four weeks.

Sushi Soy Sauce Our school is concerned about the impact of plastic on our environment and our Grade 4’s have been proactive in their sustainability projects. Tempura Café, who sup-ply our sushi on Wednesdays will no longer be supply-ing soy sauce plastic “fish” dispensers. Many have been found inside the stomachs of birds and fish in our oceans. Tina, who provides our rice paper rolls on Tuesday has purchased a bottle of refillable soy sauce for every classroom that will be available for anyone who would like soy sauce with their sushi.
