What is CDA

A legally negotiated agreement (written or spoken)

between the affected Community and the company(Eg.Ok Tedi Mining)

Intended for voluntary improvement of people’s quality of life

Enable people to participate in decision making to achieve greater long-term developments.

Why do we need cda

CDA can provide a number of benefits to both the company and landowners; To help ensure that community programs are

successful, promoting sustainable and rewarding benefits from the mining project

Improving relationships between companies, communities, governments and other stakeholders in the mining community

Provide a means of securing long-term access to resources,

Reducing exposure to disputes and legal action from community groups.

WHEN TO USE THIS TOOL

The tool should be used whenever the company find itself engaging in conversation around community development.

This tool use as basis for negotiations between companies and communities for formal agreements in order to govern the interaction around community for development programs or initiatives.

Summary

CDA is also a tool that can be used to improve relation between OTML and stakeholder/community thus reduce risks /disputes.

We recommend that CRO should adopt the CDA tool as part of social management system to be used in all negotiations between OTML and its stakeholder groups/communities
