This year's Super Bowl is to take place on Sunday, 5 February in Indianapolis and kick off will be at 1830

ET. To ensure that all get to see the live game, R & R Bar & Grill and K-16 Landing Zone Club has planned

a Super Bowl Party on Monday, 6 February at 0600. The parties will start at 0600 and since the party is early,

there will be free breakfast until supplies last. There will also be contests that patrons can participate in such

as the Trivia Game Contest and Best Touchdown Dance Contest. Patrons will have a chance to win various

door prizes to include the grand prize which is a round trip airline ticket to anywhere in Asia.

For more information, please call 738-5254/723-3291 or go to the USAG Yongsan, FMWR Facebook page.

We hope to see you there!

id you know that the first Super Bowl game in American

history was played on January 15, 1967? The Green Bay DPackers beat Kansas City Chiefs by 25 points. Although it's

too soon to tell which teams will play in the Super Bowl this year, we

have decided to take a step back and tell you how this annual event came

to be one of the biggest events of the year.

The history of the Super Bowl began when the American Football League

(AFL) merged with the National Football League (NFL) and a bouncy

rubber ball. Originally, the Super Bowl was called “The NFL-AFL

World Championship Game” but Kansas City Chief owner, Lamar

Hunt came up with the name Super Bowl for the Championship

game after watching his daughter play with her toy “Super Ball”.

Because the name “The NFL-AFL World Championship

Game” was too long and pretty much a mouthful, the fans

and media took over the unofficial name and called the

game the Super Bowl. By 1969, the game was officially

called the Super Bowl.

The great part is no previous experience is necessary to join your local US Army Rugby Korea team. Presently there are enough experienced team members who are experienced to train non-experienced players. “Biggest focus for new players is to omit all knowledge of football prior to playing rugby and to be relatively in good shape due to the demands of the game”, explains Captain Palacios. The cost to join is free but members need to go to USARugby.org and register for a CIP number which costs thirty five dollars and also need to pay ninety eight thousand WON for a kit, team jersey, shorts and socks. If you’re interested in joining your local rugby team join by; sending a message to US Army Rugby Korea’s Facebook, email [email protected], or contact Captain Palacios at 010-2731-8441 or email him on his Global email account. Another way to join is show up at practice. USAG Yongsan’s Rugby practice is held on every Tuesday from 2000-2130 at Field #12 next Collier Community Fitness Center Parking Lot and every Saturday from 1000-1200 at Seoul American High School Field. Community members are welcome to participate by attending games and cheering from the sidelines. The next rugby opportunity will be held either the twelfth of nineteenth of November featuring an EXPACT team and Military rugby team at the Seoul American High School Field. Dates can be verified at the above contact information tools. Thank you to Captain Palacios for making a positive impact to our community and I hope to see all US Military Instillations have a rugby team in the near future. he Second Hand Rose Thrift Shop Association is

a non-profit organization which functions

independently with all of their volunteers that Tcome from the military, Korean and expat community.

The shop has several decades of history in our American

and military community here in Seoul. Volunteers from

the Second Hand Rose Thrift Shop Association in

conjunction with the United States military operate the

Thrift Shop.

The Second Hand Rose Thrift Shop Association provides

the opportunity to donate or consign gently used goods.

These items are then made available for purchase at

very reasonable prices. The funds raised are then

donated to United States Forces Korea (USFK) projects,

community events and Korean charities. There is also an

established scholarship program for active duty military,

their dependents and other DoD dependents. Any items

that are not sold are donated directly to Korean

orphanages and charities.

In fiscal year 2011, the Second Hand Rose Thrift Shop

Association earned $310,000.00 and $100,000.00 of

that amount went to military and DoD scholarships.

$210,000.00 went to military projects such as

community events and Korean charities. There are many

wonderful volunteer opportunities at the Second Hand

Rose Thrift Shop Association and they welcome anyone

that would like to join their enthusiastic team. There are

plenty of new friends waiting to warmly welcome you! If

any one is interested in volunteering, Debbie Manev

(manager of the Thrift Shop)

encourages all to visit the store

from Monday through

Thursday or Saturday between

1000-1400 and someone will

be able to assist you.

everyday stresses, the tour to Asan Spavis might be exactly what you need. Asan Spavis is located about an hour away from Seoul but it is well worth the trip for every one of all ages. The facility is a major water park themed in hot spring waters with indoor and outdoor facilities. The water park includes a treatment pool that uses hot spring water for a variety of medical treatments, outdoor hot spring pools which are mostly enjoyed during the winter, hot spring pools in cozy huts that are a bit more private for families or couples and a Kids' Park where children can be safe and have fun at the same time. If you want to get out of the water for a few hours, you can go snow sledding, get a sports massage to relieve muscle tension or submerge yourself in a tank full of doctor fish to exfoliate any unwanted dead skin cells to provide you with a relaxing and refreshing unique spa experience. When it's time to leave Asan Spavis, you will feel fully rested and relaxed and your skin will feel and look softer, cleaner and more revived.

FMWR is planning to take a trip to Asan Spavis on Saturday, 18 February. The bus will depart Moyer CAC at 0800 and K-16 CAC at 0830. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, 15 February and patrons can sign up at Moyer or K-16 CAC. Patrons should bring a swimming suit, a swimming cap (required), a change of clothes (optional), and Korean money for lunch and refreshments. The entry fee is 18,500 KRW for adults and 13,500 KRW for 12 years old and under. Children under 36 months are free. Patrons can expect to return from Asan Spavis around 1530. A quick protein shake or even chocolate milk will decrease fatigue, soreness, and enhance recovery. BEST DIET: Eat more often (4-6 times daily), decrease your portion size, and do more throughout the day! “Do more, eat less, it's really that easy.”

♦ Nutritionhttp://www.orthoinfo.aaos.org/menus/sports.cfmInjury Prevention Tip: Do you enjoy running? Then get rid of those old beaten up running shoes! You are killing your feet and increasing your risk for injury. Visit a store that specializes in running. They will prescribe you a shoe that works beats for your gait. ♦ Physical Activity

Day to day life is busy and it can be overwhelming to take on more tasks such as researching ways to improve and maintain ones health. We reached out to our USAG Yongsan, FMWR Fitness Professionals and asked if they could recommend online resources to assist in answering hard hitting fitness questions concerning physical activity, preventing sports injuries, and enhancing overall physical fitness. Our Fitness Professionals offered these fitness sites as tools to educate and keep your fitness goals in check.

http://www.gssiweb.com/ Hydration Tip: Have you ever spent hours climbing a mountain in Korea and noticed you lost 5 pounds? Check your weight before and after an intense workout. If you are 2% under your average weight after a workout you are considered dehydrated. This will seriously hinder strength, endurance, coordination, and mental acuity. Rehydrate until normal body weight is maintained.
