Your Choice YourVoice - BridgeYour Choice Your Voice event came toThe Meadows with a big bang on the14th October at Queens WalkCommunity Centre, and was attended byover 80 people. The evening wasattended by a range of people including;the young, old, people from differentcommunity backgrounds, menand women.
The evening began with local residentshaving the opportunity to talk to a varietyof localised services and obtaininformation from different informationstands, and followed with fantastic, mouth watering hot food being served.
The main attraction of the eventwas the Dragons’ Den sectionwhere local people had thechance to sell their idea to themeeting to secure £100 for theirproject. In total we had 12 ideasof which all were successful inhelping to improve and transform TheMeadows area. The D D Crew presentedtheir idea through a dance performance, which was electrifying.
Local residents and workers from thearea were also involved in discussingwhat they liked about the area and whatcould be improved, and came up with
three priorities per table for local servicesto consider and deliver on.
The event was a fantastic way ofconsulting with local people and bringingcommunities together to work for thebetterment of their area.

After their amazing efforts in this year'sEast Midlands in Bloom competition,(winning a total of seven awardsbetween them), the tenant's andresidents of Glapton Road and the sixterraces that lead off it in the OldMeadows, are continuing to bloomthroughout the winter.
Working together and sharingknowledge and plants, the neighboursare determined not to let the area down
over winter by planting winter flowersand evergreens, to replace the displaysfrom the summer.
The local Tenant's and ResidentsAssociation O.M.T.R.A were alsosuccessful in getting £100 towardsimproving their wildflower garden fromthe city's Dragons Den, which givessmall amounts of money to localgroups to improve the area.
A spokesperson for O.M.T.R.A. said,“we have not had the time to make themost of the wildflower garden this year, but with the £100 and hopefully somevolunteers, we hope next year it will besomething we are all proud of.”
Another resident in Barnsley Terrace
also commentedthat he had beensat outside hishome in thesummer whensome peoplecame down onbikescommenting onhow nice thearea looked. They explainedthat they lived in Sneinton and werehoping to achieve something similarthere. So it looks like the scheme reallyis spreading across the city.

Councillor Ian MacLennan feels that2009 has been an important and excitingyear for Bridge Ward.
The securing of £200 million PFI creditsfor The Meadows Neighbourhood Planwill lead to huge improvements forresidents over the years. Local residentsand community organisations havemade and continue to make a hugecontribution in ensuring the plans meetthe wishes of residents.
For him, the most notable aspect of 2009has been the involvement of residents incaring for and taking pride in the area.Friends of Victoria Embankment (FOVE)is now well established and making avisible impact. At the other end of theward in Cliff Road residents have banded
together and won an award in theBloom competition.
Councillor Ian MacLennan is pleased thatin all parts of Bridge Ward the involvementof local residents is making a realdifference. Whether it is the CommunitySounding Board at the Meadows Library,AMC Gardens, the residents of Cliff Road,or the Tenants and ResidentsAssociations - local residents are bringingimprovements to the area and great creditto themselves.

Although some work has been done inthe past, such as single-yellow linesbeing added in some places, there is stillmore that could be done. CouncillorAkhtar is very concerned about the lackof sufficient access for residents whoneed to park there during the day.Councillor Akhtar can be contactedshould you have any concerns orproblems in the Bridge ward and hersurgeries are held twice a week.
