SPIRITUAL DIRECTION WITH DEACON LUCIEN Mon.– Tues. 9 am—5 pm

Liturgical and Pastoral Guidelines During Flu Season

The bishop’s office of the Diocese of Springfield has issued the following guidelines to help prevent the spread of flu viruses during Masses and other pastoral activities.

1. All those involved in direct ministry with people should be extra cautious and diligent in guarding against the spread of the flu virus. This is especially true for extraordinary ministers of holy Communion and pastoral visitors. They should heed all health directives by frequently washing their hands and avoiding contact with others it they, themselves, are not feeling well.

2. Reception of holy Communion under both kinds is generally encouraged but is not a necessity. Again, those not feeling well should receive holy Communion under the form of bread alone to avoid unnecessarily spreading the flu virus. Prudence dictates that receiving in the hand is to be preferred, since otherwise the fingers of those distributing Communion might touch a communi-cant’s tongue.

3. During this time of heightened concern, the Sign of Peace can be acknowledged by a simple and friendly nod and/ or wave. The spirit of exchange is not in the form it takes, but in the ex-pression of Christian peace shared among the worshiping com-munity.

4. Finally, Catholics who are not feeling well, for whatever rea-son, can excuse themselves from Sunday worship out of respect for their fellow worshipers.

Congratulations to the newly baptized:

Lukas Jonathan David Nuesslein

Stefan Nikolaus Heinrich Nuesslein

Thomas Markus Joseph Nuesslein

ROSARY FOR PEACE

Join the Newman Peer Ministers the 20 minutes before each of the masses celebrating the Feast of the Immacu-late Conception on Monday Dec. 7th at 7 pm and Tues-day Dec. 8th at 12;15 and 5:15 to recite a rosary for peace. We will be meeting the chapel preceding each Mass to gather together and pray this ancient prayer of the church. What a beautiful way to prepare for this grace filled holy day!
