COMMUNICATOR-JULY 2020 Season Update The season is finally underway for LEC. It has been a long time coming but we are finally able to get back out on track. The worker campground is back open. Those that leave campers on-site during the season are now able to do so. If you are planning on bringing your camper up to leave during a non-LEC, please get with us, so we can let Mid-Ohio know you are coming. This will reduce the time you would need to get in the facility. The showers by maintenance are also back open. The electric service to the worker campground is now restored. Mask requirements when on-site have been reduced. You required to wear a mask when inside buildings (including restrooms) or when you can’t properly social distance in groups. Wearing a mask is encouraged but not required when on station. We have several events coming up in July and the worker counts are low for all of them. If you can and willing to come out and help for even a day, we would love to see you. The AMA Vintage weekend has been postponed with no new date announced. Registration With these ever-changing times we are currently living in, procedures that we are used to doing are changing. With Mid-Ohio now allowing limited spectators on the “Pro” weekends, we are being asked to submit our worker list on Monday morning prior to the “Pro” Events and are unable to add names after the cutoff. This is to help determine the number of spectators they can allow into the venue. We know there are several people that sign up late due because of various reasons and we understand that and always try to accommodate, however with these new times, we have to work with our customer in their needs to comply with their plans submitted to the county and state. For club races, we have more leeway with registration lists. Since the club events are closed to the public per se, the numbers are no where near what the plan is in place for those on-site. Since each organization renting the track has their own procedures, we usually do not have to submit names for registration purposes and on this type of weekend you can walk up and gain entry. Keep in mind though, these events are classified as Essential Personnel Only, if you are on-site not for working purposes you may be asked to leave. COMMUNICATOR-JULY 2020

Season Update

The season is finally underway for LEC. It has been a long time coming but we are finally able to get back

out on track.

The worker campground is back open. Those that leave campers on-site during the season are now able to

do so. If you are planning on bringing your camper up to leave during a non-LEC, please get with us, so we

can let Mid-Ohio know you are coming. This will reduce the time you would need to get in the facility.

The showers by maintenance are also back open. The electric service to the worker campground is now

restored.

Mask requirements when on-site have been reduced. You required to wear a mask when inside buildings

(including restrooms) or when you can’t properly social distance in groups. Wearing a mask is encouraged

but not required when on station.

We have several events coming up in July and the worker counts are low for all of them. If you can and

willing to come out and help for even a day, we would love to see you. The AMA Vintage weekend has been

postponed with no new date announced.

Registration

With these ever-changing times we are currently living in, procedures that we are used to doing are

changing. With Mid-Ohio now allowing limited spectators on the “Pro” weekends, we are being asked to

submit our worker list on Monday morning prior to the “Pro” Events and are unable to add names after the

cutoff. This is to help determine the number of spectators they can allow into the venue. We know there are

several people that sign up late due because of various reasons and we understand that and always try to

accommodate, however with these new times, we have to work with our customer in their needs to comply

with their plans submitted to the county and state.

For club races, we have more leeway with registration lists. Since the club events are closed to the public

per se, the numbers are no where near what the plan is in place for those on-site. Since each organization

renting the track has their own procedures, we usually do not have to submit names for registration

purposes and on this type of weekend you can walk up and gain entry. Keep in mind though, these events

are classified as Essential Personnel Only, if you are on-site not for working purposes you may be asked to

leave.

If you are planning on working event, particularly “Pro” events, please register early. I would rather have

you on the list and then tell me you can’t make it rather than coming to us after registration closes and

telling me you are available and I can’t get you on the list.

We hope we can eventually go back to the “old” ways soon but this is the new policy that is place for the

foreseeable future for Mid-Ohio “Pro” events.

Pre-Race Info

Prior to events we try to send out information on registration, schedules and other items that will impact

your weekend for an event. With the times, information is changing constantly, and we remain committed

to giving you timely information. Because of the constant changing, we are waiting as long as possible to

release information because we do not want to create confusion with information.

The best place to keep up to date on schedules and information is on the LEC website in the Pre-Race info

section. When schedules are published/updated, meeting times etc….information is posted there along with

all of the waivers and forms that need to be filled out prior to arrival at the track.

Social Media

With the State and local officials allowing the reopening of Mid-Ohio to spectators, there will be a lot of eyes

on the facility and how everything is operated. We are being asked to do our part in promoting social

distancing when we are together in our group.

We do encourage picture taking while off duty when at events and sharing it with our friends on social

media; but with the sensitive nature of our current times and spectator events, we ask that you be

cognizant of what you post. The requirement by Mid-Ohio is to be wearing a mask when inside a

building or can’t be properly distanced or in groups of 10 or more.

For example, if you take a picture around the campfire, make sure everyone is properly separated or

don’t post it.

Common sense is a must in this scenario, the last thing we want is to call attention to ourselves for not

following the rules and create issues for us and Mid-Ohio in their efforts to stay re-opened to spectators.

Formula Race Promotions (July 3-5) Flag Chief: Randy Alheit

A full weekend of open racing invades Mid-Ohio as Formula 1600 & 2000 race along with Formula Ford,

Formula V and Challenge Cup. This organization always puts on great racing action. This weekend is SCCA

sanction and will count towards your license. We are currently needing another 10 people per day to cover

the needed stations with 2 per. This event is closed to spectators. It is requested only essential personnel

are on-site and ask not to bring guests/family/friends to this event. Register today at:

SCCA NEOHIO Time Trials @ Nelson Ledges (July 12) Flag Chief: Kurt Stevens

LEC returns to Nelson Ledges in support of the SCCA Time Trials. It has been way to long for us to be away

from the historic track. Hopefully, this will lead to having club racing back at Nelson’s. This was originally a

double weekend for us, but with AMA Vintage postponed hopefully some will travel up North to Nelson. We

are currently at 6 people, would like to see another 10-12 people for this one-day event. Please help

support both tracks. Register at: www.motorsportreg.com/events/scca-neohio-time-trial-f-c-nelson-

SCCA OVR Super Tour (July 16-19) Flag Chief: Randy Alheit

The road to the Runoffs, stops at Mid-Ohio for the annual OVR Super Tour Majors event at Mid-Ohio. It is a

later start to our SCCA season, but it finally arrives with great club racing action. OVR always puts on a great

event for everyone involved, we hope to see you for this one. We are at 11 people per day currently. We

would like another 13-15 people per day. Register at: www.motorsportreg.com/events/hoosier-scca-super-

Road to Indy Triple Header (July 29-30)

Road to Indy has added a standalone mid-week tripleheader for USF2000 and Pro2000. This is to make up

for cancelled races from earlier this season. We are currently in negotiations to help supplement Mid-Ohio

staff on corners to get all stations open. This is a planned pay-day $100/per day Plus $10/day per diem but

not confirmed. The contract is not finalized but we want to get a head start in planning and see who is

available to help. There may be a cap on numbers but at this time we do not know. If there is, it will be

based on who registered first. You can pre-register for the event at www.motorsportreg.com/events/road-

to-indy-mid-week-triple-header-f-c-ohio-sports-car-course-lake-erie-471654

Honda Indy 200 (August 7-9) Flag Chief: Kevin Young

As a reminder this event was moved forward one week to accommodate the new dates for the Indianapolis

500. This race is now August 7-9. This is always a fun event for us. It will be a busy weekend but if the

racing the past couple of years from IndyCar it should be another good weekend.

Due to current requirements for registration, we have a hard cut-off registration date of Sunday night on

August 2. We will not be able to add names after this cut-off date. Due to current protocols for spectators to

attend events at Mid-Ohio, worker guest passes have been temporarily suspended. Guest passes could be

reinstated as the event get closer.

LEC Safety Measures

The following are the protocols developed by Lake Erie Communications for events we staff. These

protocols were developed from recommendations by SCCA and USAC. Mid-Ohio has also published their

protocols which we must follow. While these protocols are stringent, these are put in place due to the many

unknowns still out there with this pandemic and we want everyone that comes to the track to be safe as

possible and still have a good time trying to get away from all the craziness we are experiencing. We will be

monitoring protocols as we approach each event and will communicate any changes that may occur for

each event. Hopefully as the season progresses, some of these protocols will be relaxed. As always, we will

follow the recommendations of sanctioning bodies, facilities, local and state authorities. Thank you in

advance for your cooperation and understanding.

General Guidelines:

• If you are not feeling well prior to coming to the track. Please stay home!!!!!

• Workers must provide their own PPE/Masks.

• NO LEC provided food or cookouts. The LEC grill can be used, but you must provide you own food and utensils. You will be required to clean the grill after use. Lunches will still be provided; the delivery method is still being discussed.

• NO community coolers permitted it the LEC area.

Mid-Ohio Guidelines:

• Prior to arrival, for each event, you must fill out the Medical Risk Screening Sheet and bring to Mid-Ohio to be collected. This form will be emailed to workers prior to each event and can be found in the events Pre-Race info section on the website. A copy of the form is at the end of the Communicator.

• Temperatures will be taken each time you enter the facility during the event. If you have a fever (100.4 or higher), you will not be permitted to enter the facility.

• Masks will be mandatory when inside building and where social distancing cannot be maintained.

• No guests will be permitted for events. Only workers scheduled to work events will be permitted.

• If you become ill while on-site, contact the flag chief immediately, gather your belongings and distance away from your team. The flag chief will come talk to you and determine if you should go to medical or leave the facility..

Flag Stations:

• NO community coolers will be provided by LEC for stations. Workers must provide their own coolers. LEC will provide water and Gatorade and will be available in the morning and lunch to take out of the package and delivered to station upon request. No other beverages will be provided. It is strongly encouraged to bring your own beverages for the weekend.

• Upon being procured, all stations will have wipes and/or disinfectants to wipe down flag sticks, packets, radios and other equipment. It is recommended that each worker bring their own cleaning supplies.

• An attempt will be made to keep the same station crew together throughout the event. Every effort to keep those travelling together or same family members to be assigned together. Stations will rotate daily, but crew assignments will not.

• For club races, each person should drive to station in their own vehicle. For spectator events, we are working with Mid-Ohio on a plan to drive to station.

• Depending on the size of the group and if distancing can be followed, morning meetings may be held at Station on the radio. This information will be communicated via website, email and Facebook prior to the event. If meetings are held at stations, Station assignments will be emailed and posted at registration and on the website. Equipment and gear will be delivered to each station.

• We will try to limit the number of workers at each station. We will open more stations to help keep the worker numbers down on station.

• Only working personnel will be permitted in Race Control. If you are on break, you must leave the room.

• Race Control personnel should bring their own writing utensils.

are the schedules for events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Grattan, Gingerman and Waterford Hills.

Please consider travelling to other tracks in the region. This is the best way to thank those that come to Mid-
