From LCS 2003 to OCS 2007 R2One strategy, one core team – stepwise build-up, fast

cycles5 versions already delivered in 6 years:

− LCS 2003 [2003]: built SIP/SIMPLE infrastructure for IM and presence (standalone server)

− LCS 2005 [2005]: introduced highly available pools− LCS 2005 SP1 [2006]: brought in high scale,

federation, PBX interop…− OCS 2007 [2007]: applied these core capabilities

to more than just IM, with audio, video and web – peer to peer and multiparty; and UCMA platform

− OCS 2007 R2 [2009]: rich voice features, mobile clients, platform enhancements…

Double digits growth every year for last three yearsMore than 70% of Fortune 100

Page 7: Communications Server 14 First Look

Tandberg…)− XMPP gateway

Voice/telephony:− Faster call setup, improved media stack, lower

latency, standard conforming CNG− G.711 to Mediation Server on LAN− Direct SIP to IP-PBX− Media resiliency on signaling loss− Team calls, hunt groups, basic ACD with music

on hold and IVR− Boss-Admin scenarios, call delegation, admin

and attendant console− SIP trunking to carriers

Mobility:− Fixed mobile convergence: single number, single

voice mail− Performance improvements− Support for variety of device platforms

Page 16: Communications Server 14 First Look

Enterprise voiceConnecting from anywhere

• Fully Configurable with locations, topology, links, and limits for voice & video

• Dynamically enforced with full path assessed at session initiation

• If session would exceed limits, re-route or failure

• Voice calls may be re-routed to the PSTN

• May use different links for voice and video if desired; e.g., re-route video over Internet

• Emergency call and location conveyed from via centralized SIP trunk to 3rd party partner for PSAP routing

• No P-ANIs required• Integrated Location

Information Server (LIS)

• Locations can be based on subnet, switch, port,

WiFi access point• Mobility fully

supported, for hard phones and soft phones

• Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) from multiple suppliers

• Includes gateway and software in an appliance form factor

• If WAN fails, branch clients use PSTN gateway in appliance for calls

• If appliance fails, branch clients use data center as backup

• Automatic failover and failback

SIP Trunking Announcements: Currently 10 qualified vendors including Verizon, Swisscom, Sprint, and Global Crossing

Annual session includes full written response to mock IP Telephony RFP, including list and budgetary pricing

Microsoft participated in 2010 session with traditional PBX and IP PBX vendors

Full Microsoft written response is available by clicking “Learn More” at http://www.microsoft.com/communicationsserver

Microsoft response included full UC capabilities, not just VoIP, plus partner IP phones for all users specified, and was still shown to be the most cost effective

Replacing half of the IP phones with USB devices results in an additional 20% reduction in total system purchase cost
