To improve and protect the environment. The role of the NDA Environment Manager will be to contribute to the delivery of that strategy, leading on specific areas within it. The Role:

This has resulted in one of the world’s most complex environmental decommissioning and remediation challenges. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for an environment professional to help the NDA deliver its environment strategy and to help our operating companies maintain and improve their performance.

The role of the NDA Environment Manager will be to contribute to the delivery of that strategy, leading on specific areas within it. It is anticipated the team will be made up of three managers each leading in a different area of delivery but with capability, and an expectation, to work across the strategy delivery plan as a whole;

decommissioning Each Environment Manager will be a policy and legislation subject matter expert for

environmental matters. This role will focus principally across the second two areas of work.

The key responsibilities of the Environment Manager are to:

deliver elements of the Environment Strategy as agreed with Director of Environment with the ethos of “Lead, Assure, Transfer, Collaborate” underpinning what you do;

provide technical support to the Director of Environment on environmental issues

and to be part of the NDA’s centre of expertise on environmental matters and collaborate with others in the group to identify, develop, transfer and embed good practice.

provide advice and technical support to the Operations, Programmes, Asset Management, H&S, Strategy, Commercial, Special Projects and Communications Directorates on waste, radioactive waste and environmental issues;

to develop and maintain an effective interface with environmental regulators and relevant Government Departments to enable the NDA and its subsidiaries to move ahead efficiently with the nuclear decommissioning and cleanup programme;

develop and monitor NDA’s environmental policies to ensure they are in line with UK regulatory requirements and are good practice;

analyse environmental incidents and events and provide advice to the Director of Environment on root causes and how to use this evidence to support improvement across the group;

maintain oversight of environmental performance at the NDA related businesses; and analyse performance information and other intelligence and design an appropriate and proportionate environmental assurance programme and ensure it is resourced and delivered within the NDA Integrated Assurance Programme.

ensure the environmental assurance programme adds value and provides assistance to the NDA businesses as well as assurance of environmental performance

communicate, engage and collaborate with staff in NDA group businesses with responsibility for environmental issues, in order to develop and maintain good working level contacts which form a collaborative environment community across the group which identifies and ensures good practice is implemented across the group.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

way to a broad range of stakeholders. Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work

performance and deliver objectives. Drive and determination to transfer technologies from R&D into operation that

significantly improve the delivery of the NDA mission. Commitment to continuing professional development.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

Degree in science or environment. Chartered membership of a corporate institution is desirable.

Experience of operating at a senior level in the management and/or regulation of environmental protection in the nuclear industry.

Negotiating and good interpersonal skills are essential.

Good working knowledge of environmental regulation and standards applied in high hazard industry.
