I have two tasks:

1. Get you guys in the newspapers!

2. Get you guys online via Konfirmant 2012 @ Facebook

What makes news newsworthy?

• Current • Close-at-hand• Unusual or special• Conflict• Human interest• Negativity• Competition• Etc…

But….

• There are over 200 newspapers published in Norway

• That makes one newspaper per 25,000 people

= a lot of column inches to be filled!!

This means YOU are news…

Konfirmant 2012

• A Facebook page for the confirmation class of 2012

• Managed by Inger-Lill Perset: [email protected]

• A great place for you to send updates, greetings, photos and thank-yous while you are on tour.

Selling yourself (!!)

• Where are you going?

• Identify the local paper in each place

• Tell your RK, so that he/she knows your plan!

Approaching the journalist

First, write a short text describing who, what, where, when and why in NORWEGIAN:

•Who are you?•What are you doing, where?•When will it happen?•Why are you doing this?•Include high-res photos if possible

1.Contact information is important!

Now make the call

1. Around 10am…

2. Have your text at hand

2. Call the local newspaper and ask for ”lokalnyheter” or ”kirkenyheter”

3. Talk slowly and briefly about your story; then say you think it would make a nice story (and nice photographs)

3. Offer to send an e-mail, taking down name, e-mail address and telephone number

4. Send the e-mail IMMEDIATELY!

GROUP WORK 10:45 - 11:25

Exercise #1:

In your regional teams, write a short text – first in English, then translate it into Norwegian – that presents you in a newsworthy way to a journalist.

Then call your local journalist and sell your story to him/her!

Telling YOUR story

• The Norwegian team member can describe his/her meeting with the developing world

• The South participants can describe their background and experiences. What drives you? What gives you hope?

• TOGETHER you can talk about how you hope to inspire the confirmands, and how Norwegians can help (= give money, sign the campaign)

The big 3 rules of interview situations…

• Be prepared!

• Decide what you want to say, and say it – no matter what!!

• You own your story, and you are in charge:

– If you don’t know the answer, say so…– If you don’t want to answer, don’t…

Extra points for….

• HOPE. JUSTICE. Norwegians can help make a difference!

• Using language that is personal and heart-felt

• Speaking simply and using metaphors that can help Norwegians to understand what you mean

• Repeatedly referring to Kjeer-kens Neud-yelps Fast-ak-shown

• Remember fundraising day 27th March!!

Exercise #2:

In your regional teams, prepare for an interview situation. Take notes that you can use on the road!

- Talk about the fundraising campaign- Talk about yourselves - Prepare to be asked a few ”tourist” questions about Norway- Practise your message of hope

Everybody should prepare their own text, but work together.

Interview practise:

• 14:00 – 15:00 Groups 1 – 4

• 15:00 – 16:00 Dinner

• 16:00 – 17:00 Groups 5 – 8

• 17:00 – 18:00 Groups 9 - 11
