● All quadratic functions have an exponent of 2 or can be factored into a single factor with an exponent of 2. 

 How to Graph on Ti­Nspire?

page) 3. Hit ENTER to display Graph 4. Hit MENU ­ #4 WINDOWN to 

control the screen view. 5. Hit MENU ­ #5 GRAPH TRACE to 

find max, min, zero of function. 6. Use TAB to enter another function is 

f2(x) = …..

Topic: Factoring Quadratic with “X” method      

Tips/Hints Factoring when the leading the coefficient is 1 

 Factoring when the leading coefficient is greater than 1 

1) Repeat steps 1 and 2 above 2) THEN we divide by the leading 

coefficient (a value) and simplify 3) If BOTH answers ARE whole number 

then our factors can be written as “a (x+b) (n+c)” 

a) “a” is the leading coefficient b) “b” and “c” are the numbers 

you get after you divide by “a” 4) If ONE of the answer is a fraction then 

our factors can be written written as a) (dx+e) (x+f) meaning that after 

we divide by the leading coefficient, our answer was  edand f 

Example #1: Factor x2 +5x +6         

Example #2: Factor 3x2 ­9x + 6  

Example #3: Factor 2x2 + 7x + 3
