Processes vs. Events
• John Maxwell• But I’ve found that many
people walk away from an event and do very little with what they
heard after closing their notebooks.
• We tend to focus on learning events instead of the
learning process.
Processes vs. Events
• T indicates you need to spend some time thinking on
that point. • C indicates something you
need to change. • :=) means you are doing that
thing particularly well. • A indicates something you
need to apply. • S means you need to share
that information with someone else.
• FIND WAYS TO CREATE ACTION STEPS, AND FOLLOW THROUGH ON
SOMETHING YOU LEARN TODAY.
Hearers vs. Doers
• James 1:22-25
• 22 be ye doers of the word, and not hearers
only, deceiving your own selves.
• 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a
doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face
in a glass:
Hearers vs. Doers
• James 1:22-25
• 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and
straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth
therein, he being not a forgetful
hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be
blessed in his deed.
Hearers & Doers
• Luke 6:46-49
• 46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do
not the things which I say? 47
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you
to whom he is like:
Hearers & Doers
• Luke 6:46-49
• 48 He is like a man which
built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a
rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that
house, and could not shake
it: for it was founded upon a rock.
Hearers & Doers Not
• Luke 6:46-49
• 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a
man that without a
foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and
immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was
great.
Limiting
GOD!• Mark 6:1-6
• 1 And he went out from
thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
• 2 And when the sabbath day
was come, he began to teach in the
synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying,
Limiting
GOD!• Mark 6:1-6
• 2b From whence hath this man these things?
and what wisdom is this which is given unto
him, that even such
mighty works are
wrought by his hands?
Limiting
GOD!• Mark 6:1-6
• 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of
Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon?
and are not his sisters here with us?
• And they were offended at him.
Limiting
GOD!• Mark 6:1-6
• 4 But Jesus said unto
them, A prophet is not without
honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his
own house.
Limiting
GOD!• Mark 6:1-6
• 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and
healed them.
• 6 And he marvelledbecause of their
unbelief. And he went round about the villages,
teaching.
The Good
Sower• Mark 4:1-20
• 2 And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, 3 Hearken; Behold, there went
out a sower to sow: • 4 And it came to pass, as he
sowed, some fell by the way side, and the
fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
The Good
Sower• Mark 4:1-20
• 5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not
much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: 6 But when the
sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no
root, it withered away. • 7 And some fell among
thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
The Good
Sower• Mark 4:1-20
• 8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some
thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
• 9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let
him hear
You are the Soil!
• Mark 4:1-2014 The sower soweth the
word. 15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when
they have heard,
• Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the
word that was sown in their hearts.
You are the Soil!
• Mark 4:1-20• 16 And these are they likewise
which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it
with gladness; • 17 And have no root in
themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution
ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they
are offended.
You are the Soil!
• Mark 4:1-20
• 18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such
as hear the word,
• 19 And the cares of this world, and the
deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in,
choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
You are the Soil!
• Mark 4:1-20
• 20 And these are they which are sown on good
ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some
sixty, and some an hundred.
GODthe Sower!
•God is the tireless sower. • He never gets frustrated nor does he stop
simply because some seeds never get to yield much.
GODthe Sower!
• God just keeps on sowing, in season and out of season.
• He never stops forgiving, loving, and
creating.
• It is God’s nature to go on loving and
sowing.
YOU!The Sower
• That, too, is our calling—to go on loving, even
when we are not loved back; to persist in
forgiving even when our forgiveness is taken for
granted; to continue living, even when everything seems
hopeless.
• We never give up for we have a God who
never gives up on us.
