What is commissioning?
Why is commissioning important?
• Commissioning is a key function of social services
• Through commissioning, we are able to address/meet the current and future needs of its local population
• Commissioning activities will raise consciousness about unmet needs and assures service quality
• Commissioning will make sure that needed services are provided and will promote the best use of resources
• Commissioning is about managing the balance between primary, acute and community care, and managing the expanding private and voluntary sectors
What services do we commission?
Domiciliary Care (community)
Range of services, including Carers support,, Healthwatch, Link Workers. Mix of IBU and statutory external
Joint Service with CCG –Equipment via Enabled Living EBU.
Currently provided by external agencies via Dom Care Framework Major remodel ongoing
Over half of these services are provided via Good Support Group EBU

• Workplace is Newham’s jobs brokerage, bringing together a comprehensive range of personalised, integrated services to both Newham residents and employers.
• local unemployed and under-employed people, access to training provision and business support services as well as supporting local employers’ recruitment needs free recruitment to employers
• In Newham alone, we estimate that by 2025 there will have been £22 billion invested, creating new jobs and opportunities and more than 35,000 new homes.
That includes: £3.7 billion regeneration project underway in Canning Town
and Custom House, set to deliver an additional 10,000 homes
£1 billion development of an Asian Business Port at Royal Docks agreed with Chinese developer ABP to deliver retail,
leisure, and office space
£3.5 billion 10 year regeneration project now agreed at Silvertown Quays and a further 10,000 new homes

What is Supported Internship • A collaborative venture between key partners
which aims to give young people the skills to move into employment
• Designed to develop transferable skills knowledge and attitudes in readiness for paid employment.
• Have a track record of success in enabling young people with learning disabilities to gain direct work within top businesses.
