Community Center

Concept Statement

ó The design for the Community Educational Center in

Fayetteville, Tennessee will embrace the history of the main street district yet exude a contemporary style that will bring it up to the present and look toward the future. The center will have reclaimed wood for historic preservation and the furnishings will be artistic in design. The color scheme will include vivid colors inclusive of orange and yellow hues to inspire adventure, analytical process, mental clarity and sociability. The space will be inviting with emphasis on geometric and organic forms for visual interest.

ó I chose this view because it was the main entry way and my other sketches were of different areas throughout the library. I included the acoustical ceiling tiles from Armstrong, which adds function as well as visual interest. The space meets the client’s need’s in that it is contemporary, with a functional space. This space is universal and presents privacy and openness at the same time.

CEILING TREATMENT

FLOORING CHILDREN’S READING AREA FABRICS

For this color palette I chose bright colors that according to this

week’s lectures are uplifting. The neutral colors, as in the flooring options

and ceiling, balance the bold hues and reduce eyestrain. I chose a

selection of finishes and furnishings that contrast for emphasis. The

flooring is sustainable reclaimed wood from the historic city. I chose the

orange fabric option due to its organic pattern; the colors are bright

which gives way to the contemporary style. The ceiling tile treatment

adds interest in with bold interlocking varying squares that are

sustainable.
