Hamburg-based Marine Service GmbH is part
of the family owned Dr. Karl-Heinz Krämer
Holding (KHK). MS was founded in 1958 as a
marine consultancy firm engaged in design
and construction of seagoing ships. From the
mid 1960’s Marine Service has become one of
the leading consultants for marine transporta-
tion and handling of LNG, LPG and Ethylene.
Leveraging its LNG experience, Marine Service
is now pioneering LNG as marine fuel solutions
for a wide range of inland waterway craft and
seagoing vessels. Offshore wind power con-
version platform consultancy and project
management is part of Marine Service’s
involvement in Renewable Energy. From initial
feasibility study and Front-End Engineering
& Design to delivery of turn-key solutions,
Marine Service delivers added value to its clients.

LNG as fuel
The LNG pump module transfers LNG from
the storage tanks to the vaporizer module.
The Marine Service standard series covers
flow rates from 1 to 8 m³ / h LNG at 10 bar,
which can supply engines with 2,000 to
16,000 kW. It comes either with one or two
pumps, depending on the required redun-
dancy. The prefabricated skid can be easily
connected to the gas system on board.
Marine Service developed a housing for se-
veral gas valve units which regulate the gas
flow and pressure to the engine. Due to a
fast reaction time the GVU must be locat-
ed as close as possible to the engine. The
housing which allows ventilated and gas
detected operation can be located in any
ship space. For a smaller footprint the GVU
can be encased vertically.
Marine Service vaporizer modules offer LNG
to fuel gas transformation for a great varie-
ty of gas and dual-fuel engines from 2,000
up to 16,000 kW. The vaporizer module is a
glycol water heated shell and tube design
which can optionally be equipped with a
pressure-build-up system.
The Marine Service GMACS (Gas Monitoring
Alarm and Control System) provides a survey
of all information about gas handling process.
This includes the operation modes, analog
and digital process signals like temperatures,
pressures, flows, valve positions, etc. GMACS
provides an easy to use HMI (Human Machine
Interface) showing all mimics of the process.
GMACS provides a high sophisticated user-
friendly alarm handling and logging. Automa-
tic procedures of gas processes (start-up, stop,
etc.) are controlled and monitored by GMACS.
MS 40‘ ISO LNG Fuel Tank Container:

Marine Service Modules:
Overview
SHIP ENGINE
The glycol water module connects the en-
gine cooling circuit and the LNG vaporizer
module. The Marine Service standard series
covers flow rates from 9 to 72 m³/h, which
is an equivalent engine power of 2,000 to
16,000 kW. It comes with two pumps which
provides full redundancy for a secure opera-
tion. The prefabricated skid can be easily
connected to the gas system on board.
