When dealing with office buildings, especially speculative office buildings, RSPensuresthatthebuildingisdesignedtoprovidetenantswithlargeportionsofcolumnfreespace.Thisoffersflexibilityforanynumberofspace-planningarrangements&easydeskandcubicalplacement.RSPhasrefinedthedesignofofficebuildingsovertime,andhasdevelopedsomewhatastandardofwhattheidealofficeplanislike.
Thelayoutsofofficebuildings;however,aredrivenbytheusers.Thiscanresultinoneofthreetypicalfloorplans.Oneisthehierarchicallayout,inwhichprivateofficesandconferenceroomsarelocatedontheperimeterofafloorandthegeneralemployeesandtheircubiclesarelocatedatthecentre.Thesecondoneisaninverted-hierarchicallayout.Inthisplantheworkersandtheirworkspacearelocatedattheperimeteroftheplanandtheprivateofficesandroomsareatthecentre.Thethirdlayoutisthenon-hierarchicallayout.Thisisanopenplan,inwhichworkershavemoreinteractionandareabletobemoreproductive.
