Slide 2 COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION Assistant Vice President, Dr. Renee Simpson Slide 3 Commencement Information Overview Ceremony location and start time Line up and marching instructions Attire Placement and Pictures Name recognition Slide 4 Graduates are to report to the University of Central Florida, CFE Arena by 5:30 p.m. The processional will begin at 6:40 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. COMMENCEMENT PLACE AND TIME Slide 5 Parking Each vehicle should display the parking pass on the dashboard You will be directed to park in areas designated for graduates Sample Parking Pass Slide 6 Commencement Tickets All guests older than 9 months of age are required to have a ticket to enter the Arena Each graduate will receive four (4) tickets Slide 7 Cap and gown Arrive with your cap and gown on or ready to be put on Tassel is worn on the right side until the degree is conferred Its your day cap style is up to you Slide 8 Items to bring to the ceremony There are no dressing rooms There is no area to store personal items It is important that you are dressed in your cap and gown when you report the Arena Slide 9 Line up Bachelor Graduates will march in first Processional will begin at 6:40 p. m. Valencia Student Development staff will serve as your Marshals You will be directed when to march and where to be seated for the ceremony Slide 10 You will be directed to stand for The Pledge of Allegiance Women should keep their caps on at all times Men should remove their caps for the Pledge of Allegiance and keep them off until asked to stand in preparation for the conferring of the degrees Pledge of allegiance Slide 11 The ceremony The President will greet you and your guests There will be recognition of the faculty and staff followed by the commencement address Your distinguished graduate will speak The President will ask you to stand and the Board of Trustees chairperson will confer the degrees Your Marshals will direct you when to stand to move to the staging area Pay attention to what is being saidthis is YOUR big moment! Slide 12 Marshal The Marshal will walk and give a signal to move toward the platform area Graduates enter the right side of the stage and exit the left side of the stage As you move to the platform area, be prepared to hand your name card to the reader As your name is read you will be greeted by the platform party, they will give you a congratulatory handshake Slide 13 Hand shake The photographer will capture this moment of you shaking your hand with the President The President will pose you, so pause and look at the camera You will exit the stage to the photographers area on the Arena floor for a second picture Slide 14 Returning to your seat After your second picture you will need to follow the directions of the floor Marshals to your row and be seated Do not wait on others in your row before being seated Slide 15 Pictures Photographers proofs will be sent to the email address you indicate on your name card within 72 hours of the ceremony There will be no video for purchase The video will be available to view at least two weeks after the ceremony- www.valenciacollege.edu You may order pictures through Grad Images Slide 16 IMPORTANT NOTES Arrive at the ceremony dressed appropriately Arrive at the UCF, CFE Arena by 5:30 p. m. Your guests must each have a ticket When walking to the processional follow your Marshal Graduates or guests requiring special assistance should contact the Office for Students with Disabilities at (407) 582-2229 Slide 17 important day for many people The ceremony marks a significant achievement for all of you. In light of that, we ask you to remind your guests to dress appropriately and to honor all graduates by remaining silent throughout the ceremony so that everyone can hear the program participants.
