Comma, Quote Strategy

A way to provide evidence, examples, and detail.

Why use comma quote strategy?

• Constructed Responses require:

Specific details. Examples. Direct quotes. Evidence. Specific information.

Use one or more of the following when citing:• 1. According to the author

on page…. Paragraph…..• (Comma/quote)

• 2. An example of this can be found on page…… paragraph……. (Comma/quote)

How do I use comma quote?• 1. Cite specific words and

phrases from the text.

• Example: • Question: Using evidence

from the text, give an example which shows that Alfonso is concerned about his appearance.

Example:

• Alfonso is concerned about his appearance. An example of this can be found on page 30, paragraph 5, when the author states, “He spend hours in front of the mirror trying to herd his teeth into place with his thumb.”

Add You Thoughts and Ideas

• Alfonso was so concerned because he knew that his parents couldn’t afford for him to have braces and that’s why he tried to fixed his teeth on his own.
