Comfort Doors S8/K8.General Information.

1. General information

Areas of use:The S8/K8 comfort elevatordoors are used for passengerand freight elevators with highrequirements concerningsmooth running, capacity andconvenience.

The two-panel, side opening,automatic telescopic slidingdoor (M2T) is usually used forpassenger elevators where theshaft must be as narrow aspossible compared to the widthof the door.

The two-panel, central open-ing, automatic sliding door(M2Z) is designed for passen-ger elevators with short doorrun times and high handlingcapacities.

The four-panel, central open-ing, automatic telescopicsliding door (M4TZ) is usedmainly for passenger andfreight elevators with highcapacities and wide doors andwith small shaft dimensions.

Planning recommendation:Elevators should be planned ina way that they can be easilyused by elderly and by handi-capped persons. A door widthof 900 mm and a door heightof 2100 mm are therefore the minimum elevator doordimensions according to theDeutschen Industrienorm (Ger-man Industry Standard) DIN18024/18025 “Constructionof accessible buildings” and“Accessible dwellings”.

Fire protection certification:The landing doors correspondwith DIN 18091 “Lift landingsliding doors for lift wells withwalls of the fire resistance classF 90” and can be used for ele-vator shaft walls of the F 90fire resistance class in accor-dance with DIN 4102 “Firebehaviour of building materialsand building components”. ForGermany, therefore, the rele-vant landing door requirementsfor fire certification have beenmet. A special type (which alsoincludes wraparound laby-rinths) of the S8 sheet metallanding doors has also beentested and approved in accor-dance with British fire tests(in accordance with BS 476).This allows the door to be posi-tioned in a number of exportmarkets, where fire certificationfor landing doors is required. At present there is no fire cer-tification for the S8 glassdoors. Therefore, they can notbe used when fire certificationis required, i. e. when the land-ing doors are adjacent to firelobbies.

S8 landing doors:As a standard, the landingdoors are fixed to anchor railswhich, in the interest of savingspace, are in recesses. Thiskeeps the distance between cardoor threshold and shaft wall,as required in EN 81, below150 mm. In the same way thedoors can be fitted directly intothe shaft without a recess andbe fixed to anchor rails orplugged.In these cases, a car door lockmust be installed in accor-dance with EN 81.

The minimum floor to floordistance is door height + 590 mm.The landing doors have verysolid, laser-welded double skin door leaf with 2 mm thicksheet metal on the visible side.Wider doors are additionallyreinforced with stiffening fins.

The door frame consists of– the threshold of bent 3 mm

thick sheet steel with ascrewed-on aluminium profile

– the architraves of 2 mm thickbent sheet steel and

– the suspension gear of 3 mmthick bent sheet steel withspecial guide rails.

The floor covering provided bythe customer can be broughtright up to the outer door panelfacing the corridor. The alu-minium guide threshold is fur-ther back compared to thearchitraves (see sketch).

Optionally, an additional alu-minium profile can be orderedto fit between the architraves ifthis version with the pulled-upfloor covering is not desired(SA 19 special design).

K8 car doors:The thresholds, suspensiongear and guide rails corres-pond with the technical designof the landing door. The cardoors are insulated againstvibration and mounted on thecar. The door panels are dou-ble-skinned.The coupling to the landingdoors is effected by a wideningcam attached to the car doors,which is operated via the tooth-ed belt lead. The car floor co-vering may have a thickness ofup to 40 mm. The car heightcan be up to 300mm largerthan the door height; larger car heights require additionalfastening. Protection class forthe entire door is IP20.

Versions:The doors are delivered withhigh-quality submersion prim-ing. The door panels andframes can also be paintedwith varnish or cladded withbendable material like stainlesssteel coverings, if required.

Door drive systems:The door drive is effected via agearless, frequency-controlledthree-phase motor by a wearresistant belt drive for lownoise operation. The very com-pact unit is maintenance-freeand, because of the high-reso-lution pulse generator at themotor, requires no door limitswitch. As the drive does notprotrude the projected area ofthe suspension gear, evenlarge car heights can be realis-ed, compared to the doorheight. The drive is insulatedagainst vibration and attachedto the car door. The start-up isactivated by teach-in functions.IP54 is the protection class.Technical data can be found onpage 20.Door drive, type F5:Area of use for door widths upto 1150 mm. Motor, frequencyconverter, control and pulsegenerator are confined to onesealed housing.Door drive, type F2/1:Area of use for door widths ofup to 2500 mm. Consists of acompact motor unit and controldevice with vector-regulatingreal value computer.

Noise:The noise made by the doorsdepends on the door dimen-sions, door coverings, installa-tion conditions and door runtimes. In all cases, an airbornesound level of under 55 dB(AF) can be assumed at a dis-tance of 1m from the landingdoor.

Door security systems:As a standard, light grids with 94 intersecting beams and an effective height ofabout 1500 mm are used (notfor explosion-proof versions).Optionally, a light grid with 194(intersecting) beams (heightabout 1800 mm) can be used.In addition, entry zone monitor-ing with infra-red sensor canbe used.

Threshold loads:As a standard, aluminiumthresholds with permissiblewheel loads of 280 kg areused. Apart from that, stain-less steel thresholds for 500 kgand 1500 kg wheel loads arealso available.

5. Overview of threshold types

The threshold versions for shaft and car doors are aluminium thresholds with a permissible wheelload of up to 280 kg, stainless steel thresholds with permissible wheel loads of up to 500 kg and solidstainless steel thresholds with a permissible wheel loads of up to 1500 kg.

The special threshold version with no visible guide represents a new product in the series. The floorcovering of a thickness up to 40 mm can be laid out up to the front edge of the threshold.

The display and control elements are positioned in the right architrave (for M2Z and M4TZ) or in the closing edge architrave of the landing doors (SA 7 and SA 8 special designs).The display and control elements can also be positioned in the wall-mounted push-button boxversion, above or next to the landing door, in the wall.

Glass Doors.General Information.

The glass door panels havewraparound 50 mm wide panelframes.

The closing edges of the cen-tral opening doors are optional-ly designed as 25 mm thickframes, so that at the closingedge the closed door looks asif it has a frame width of 50mm. The other three sides ofthe frame are 50 mm wide.The glass door panel framesare always cladded and can be delivered with any of the linings also available for thesheet steel frames (see p. 21).

The glass pane are flush withthe door panel frame. The gapbetween the glass door panelsand architrave or door entranceframe is limited to a maximumof 4 mm to avoid children hav-ing their hands pulled in. Thearchitraves are always claddedin order to obtain small radii on the edges; this helps toachieve a perfect effect of dismissal.The panels are made of trans-parent laminated safety glass.

Depending on the door width,the F5 and F 2/1 door drivesare installed in the same wayas for the sheet steel door pan-els.

For optical reasons, the lightcurtain for the glass doors isattached permanently to thecar door at the end of the trackor at the end of the guide railsection.

Widening cam for glass doorpanelsFor glass door panels, the camangles of the car door wideningcam protrude into the visiblearea (see sketch). The cambase plate can not be seenthough.

The SA 30 special design canbe selected if the cam anglesare supposed to be invisible.Here the cam is shortenedand neither the cam base plate

nor the cam angles can beseen (for 50 mm frame width).However, this version does notallow advanced door opening.

Complying with regulations

The requirements to mechani-cal stability and the criteria forthe pendulum shock tests inaccordance with EN 81, annexJ are fulfilled.

Certification due to the pendu-lum shock tests is only valid forthe frame widths displayed.

If children have access to anelevator with glass doors, thedanger of their hands beingpulled in must be reduced inaccordance with pt. 7.2.3.6.and 8.6.7.5. of EN 81.

We achieve this for our S8/K8glass doors by applying the following:– The glass panes are flush

with the door panel frame.– The bending radii of the door

architraves are minimised toabout 1 mm.

– The door architraves and thedoor panels with guide railsare stiff.

– The gaps between door paneland architrave or betweendoor panels is set to 3 mm(±1 mm) at the factory or tobe set on site in the course of door panel installation.

– The 3 mm gaps must bemaintained up to a height of 1.6 m, checked in thecourse of maintenance and,if necessary, corrected.

– Drive: The opening speed isset to a maximum of 0.3 m/son site.

– The architraves are alwayscladded and the cladding atthe gaps between door andframe is designed to avoidsharp edges. This minimisesthe risk of children gettinginjured while pulling theirhands out after having thempulled in despite the abovemeasures.

Fire Protection.Door Version in Accordance with British Fire Test Regulations.

SA 100, a special design of theS8 sheet metal landing doors(also including wraparoundlabyrinths), has been testedand approved in accordancewith British fire protection regu-lations (according to BS 476,section 22, 1987). Due to this,the door can be positioned in anumber of export marketswhere fire protection certifica-tion is required. Certain specialdesigns are not available herethough (SA 7, SA 8, SA 18, SA 31, SA 34, SA 37).

Because of the labyrinths onthe closing edges of the doorpanels, which are necessaryfor fire protection certification,the clear width of the door isreduced by 20 mm, i.e. theclear width of a 1000 mm widedoor amounts to 980 mm.

If dimensions are required forthe clear width, the door widthmust be increased by 50 mm.In this case, please observethe effect on the required shaftwidth. For a 50 mm wider door,

the clear width is 30 mm widerthan the door width initiallyselected.

There are no German or Britishfire protection regulations forglass doors. Therefore, glassdoors can not be used wherefire protection certification isrequired, i.e. when landingdoors are adjacent to fire lob-bies.

Door Protection Systems. Systems for All-Round Safety.

Automatically operated elevatordoors must be equipped with adevice which prevents personsor objects from being caughtbetween closing doors. Themaximum permissible closingforce is 150 N.

Optoelectronic door protec-tion systemsOptoelectronic door protectionsystems enable a swifter reac-tion and therefore enhancesafety. The different protectionsystems for doors offered byThyssen Aufzüge are standardlight curtains, high-resolutionlight curtains and standardentry zone monitoring.

The standard light curtain is anon-contact, optoelectronicdoor protection system. The transmitter and receiverare integrated into the doorpanels. A light curtain is builtup between them. Each inter-ruption of one or severalbeams triggers the re-openingof the door drive. The deviceoperates using invisible alter-nating light in the infraredrange.

Extended detection even withstandard light curtain.The standard light curtainguarantees the detection of all objects in an area of up toabout 1.65 m in height. Here,the full protective effect re-mains in force until the door is closed. Because of thesedecisive advantages, the lightcurtain is a standard feature in all elevators by ThyssenAufzüge.

Highest level of sensitivity.Optionally, there are high-resolution light curtains with a particularly high level ofprotection. 40 parallel and 194 intersecting beams up to1.80 m in height guarantee thehighest level of sensitivity.

More convenience and avail-ability due to entry zonemonitoring.As an additional device toconventional door protectionsystems, Thyssen Aufzügeoptionally offers entry zonemonitoring in order to keeptime losses to a minimum while increasing conveniencefor the user even more.

SA 35 � Gap cover for initial plastering.This is needed when the distance between the shaft architrave and the shaft wall is too large; aids plastering of door.

SA 37 � Rubber strip on the closing edge.Rubber strip is attached to the side of the wall; prevents draughts at the closing edge through the “chimney effect” of the shaft.

SA 38 � Plug fastening.This is needed when the landing door is not attached at the anchor rails.
