What is Hanbok/History of Hanbok한복이란 무엇인가

Hanbok(Korean clothing) : The traditional Korean dress. It is often characterized by natural colors and simple lines without pockets. Hanbok is worn as semi-formal or formal wear during traditional festivals and celebrations. The modern Hanbok does not exactly follow the actual style as worn in ancient since it went through some major changes during the 20th century for practical reasons.

한복 : 한국의 전통 의복. 자연과 어우러지는 색상이 특징이며 천 자체를 보면 직선형이지만 주머니가 없는 구조로 인해몸에 입을 경우 곡선이 살아나게 도와주는 미적 특징이 있다. 현대에는 명절이나 격식을 갖추는 자리에서 착용한다. 과거현대에는 명절이나 격식을 갖추는 자리에서 착용한다. 과거형식과는 다르게 시대의 흐름과 대중의 요구에 따라 색과 소재, 특징 등을 새롭게 접목하며 변화하고 있다.

Origin & History of Hanbok한복의 기원과 역사(변화과정)

The hanbok can trace its origin to nomadic clothing in the Scytho-Siberian cultural sphere of northern Asia, widespread in ancient times

Antiquity : hanbok was designed to facilitate ease of movement and also incorporated many shamanistic motifs. From this time, the basic structure of hanbok, namely the jeogori jacket, baji pants, and the chima skirt, was established. Short, tight trousers and tight, waist-length jackets were worn by both men and women.

Joseon dynasty : The early Joseon dynasty appeared to continue the women's fashion for baggy, loose clothing, However, by the 16th century, the jeogori had shortened to the waist, and appears to have become closer fitting

Today : Today's hanbok is the direct descendant of hanbok as worn

한복은 고대 동북아시아의 스키타이-시베리아 문화에서 건너온 것으로 유목민의 다양한 의상 중 하나를 기원으로 볼 수 있다.

상고시대 : 고구려에서는 옷감의 색이 다양해 흰색, 검정색, 노란색, 보라색등이 쓰였다. 백제는 아름다움이 두드러졌으며 고구려에 비해서는 여성적이었다. 신라는 독자적인 복식을 겸용하여 발달해 나갔다. 이후 통일신라에서는 당나라와의 교류가 융성하면서 복식 또한 매우 발달했다. 고구려를 계승한 발해는 고구려의 복식제도를 계승하는 모습을 보였다.

고려 , 조선 시대 : 한복에 시각적인 변화를 실증적으로 일으켰다. 저고리의길이는 길어지고 치마는 허리에서 입는 형태여서 폭이 넓어지다가 16세기들어 저고리는 허리 윗부분으로 그 길이가 짧아졌으며 좀 더 가슴 부분으로올라갔다.

오늘날의 한복 : 오늘날의 한복은 과거부터 이어져 온 한복의 직계이며 조선후기의 형태와 가장 비슷하다.

Types of Hanbok한복의 종류

Hanbok is classified according to its purposes: everyday dress, ceremonial dress(child's first birthday, a wedding or a funeral) and special dress(made for shamans and officials)

한복은 목적, 관혼상제의 기준에 따라 일상복(서민복), 예복(돌잔치, 혼례, 상복) 그리고 영복, 관복 등으로 나눌 수 있다. 옷의 문양과 자수가 달라지는 한편 여러 의상의 배합과 성격도 달라졌다.
