2016 SUMMER IN THE ROCKIES 12

IMPORTANT EQUINE HEALTH INFORMATION

It is recommended that all horses stabling on the Colorado Horse Park grounds arrive between 8:00 am and 5:00 PM. If it is necessary to arrive at any other time you must make arrangements with the show office prior to arrival. (303) 841-7461.

Colorado Horse Park management strives to provide an excellent showing environment. An integral part of an excellent showing environment includes healthy horses. Exhibitors, especially those traveling long distances, can contribute to that healthy environment by following some basic recommendations listed below. Please monitor our web site at www.chp.coth.com for any additional and possibly mandatory requirements.

1) Must be dated by Veterinarian within 7 days of arriving at the Facility

2) A current negative coggins test. Please renew before it expires, and not just before it is necessary to leave the state. It is strongly recommended that all horses be vaccinated for Equine EHV-1 (either modified live or killed vaccine) no sooner than 7 days prior and no later than 120 days prior to entering the show grounds. Most EHV-1 vaccines are only considered effective for 120 days. Check with your veterinarian about which vaccine you use.

3) Statement of Health must be signed by a licensed veterinarian within 7 days of first arrival at CHP, documenting that the horse has:

1. Received regular and consistent vaccination against Equine Influenza and EHV 1 & 4 with most recent booster being within 120 days and not within 7 days. Written statements from Vet explaining reasons for being boostered within 180 Days MAY be accepted. IN NO CASES MAY THE BOOSTER BE WITHIN 7 DAYS OR OUTSIDE OF 180 DAYS.

2. Not shown symptoms of or been treated for EHV-4/1 within the past 28 days.

3. Not been at a facility under quarantine for EHV-4/1 or exposed to any horses showing symptoms of EHV-4/1 within the past 28 days

4) Current vaccination against WNV, EEE, WEE, Tetanus and Rabies is strongly recommended.

5) You should be able to document your horses normal temperature before arrival. Please do not ship horses with elevated temperatures. It is recommended that you establish a log of temperatures taken at least twice daily. If there is an elevated temperature for more than a 24 hour period, please consult your local Veterinarian immediately. 6) Every effort should be made to minimize stress and commingling of horses shipped long distances. Extra hours on a horse van, or moving from stable to stable is the fastest way to compromise your horses' and your neighbors horses' health.

7) Any horse on the show grounds with a fever of unknown origin or of suspicious origin must be reported to Colorado Horse Park Management. It is always better to err on the side safety. Isolation stalls will either be available on the grounds or at a local veterinary practice if the need arises.

8) Please take the time to review equine good hygiene practices and impress its importance to your groom in everyday care.

wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with harness secured. properly fitting protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. Harness must be secured and properly fitted. Any rider violating this rule at any time must immediately be prohibited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place. For all exhibitors competing in the hunter, jumper, or hunter seat equitation section, if a rider’s chin strap becomes unfastened, the rider may stop, re-fasten the chin strap and continue his/her round without penalty or elimination. A judge may, but is not required to stop a rider and ask them to refasten a chin strap which has become unfastened, again without penalty to the rider. Members of the Armed Services or the Police may wear the Service Dress Uniform.

4. Any exhibitor may wear protective headgear (ASTM/SEI) and/or a protective vest either body protecting or inflatable, specifically designed for use in equestrian sport in any division or class without penalty from the judge. The Federation recommends that the vest pass or surpass the current ASTM standard F1937 or be certified by the Safety Equipment Institute. For Eventing, inflatable vests are permitted only when worn over a body protecting vest.

5. See DC117.6.3 for protective headgear requirement in Combined Driving.6. See DR120 for protective headgear requirement in Dressage.7. Except as may otherwise be mandated by local law, the Federation strongly encourage all riders, while riding anywhere on the competition grounds, to wear protective

headgear with harness secured which passes or surpasses ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. (Exception hunter, jumper, or hunter/jumper competitions refer to GR801.2) It is the responsibility of the rider, or the parent or guardian or trainer of the junior exhibitor to see to it that the headgear worn complies with appropriate safety standards for protective headgear intended for equestrian use, and is properly fitted and in good condition, and the Federation, Show Committee, and Licensed Officials are not responsible for checking headgear worn for such compliance.

8. The Federation makes no representation or warranty, express or implied, about any protective headgear, and cautions riders that death or serious injury may result despite wearing such headgear as all equestrian sports involve inherent dangerous risk and as no helmet can protect against all foreseeable injuries.

9. Boots/shoes worn while riding anywhere on the competition grounds must have a distinguishable heel. (Exception: Arabian, Hackney Pony, Morgan, National Show Horse, Parade, Roadster, American Saddlebred, and Saddle Seat Equitation).

10. Competitors must display the correct number which must be clearly visible while performing in any class unless otherwise stated in the prize list. Competitors may be penalized at the discretion of the judge. Numbers to be supplied by management in compliance with GR1213.11. 11. Refer to EQ109.1 and HU127. GENERAL AND ANIMAL WELFARE POLICY FOR RIDER, TRAINER, OWNER, AND GROOMUpholding the welfare of the horses exhibited here is of primary concern The Colorado Horse Park. We require that all horses be treated with kindness, respect and com-passion and never be subject to mistreatment. Owners, trainers, riders and grooms, or their agents, must use reasonable care in handling and treatment of their horses, whether owned or placed in their care for competition or for any other purpose. At all times while the horse is on the show grounds we will provide for the continuous well-being of the horse by vigorously enforcing the rules of the USEF which pertain to the welfare of the horse. Exhibitors are cautioned that GR302 (which defines the USEF’s policy on abuse), GR806 (which pertains to Poling), and GR320 (which pertains to the Use of Whips), will be strictly enforced. Any handling and veterinary treatment should ensure the health and welfare of the horse. High standards of nutrition, health, sanitation and safety shall be encouraged and maintained at all times. Adequate provision will be made for ventilation, feeding and watering and maintaining a healthy environment. Any method of riding and training should take account of the horse as a living entity and must not include any technique considered to be abusive. The well-being of the horse must be considered above the demands of the breeders, trainers, riders, owners, dealers, organizers, sponsors or officials. Violators are subject, under the above rules, to elimination from competition and to protest or charge with resulting formal proceedings which may result in severe fines, suspensions or other penalties. To affirm the sport of show jumping to the general public in a positive, humane light and eliminate those training methods which may be misconstrued, we are maintaining the following policy in all areas of the horse show grounds, starting one half hour before the first scheduled class of the horse show and continuing until the last scheduled class of the horse show is completed.

POLING AND OFFSETSManual poling and or the use of bamboo pole offsets are prohibited. Any rider or trainer found poling or using offsets, as well as the horse or pony involved, will be immediately eliminated from the class where the incident occurred, be suspended for a twenty-four hour period starting from the time of the incident and will forfeit all entry fees. In the case of further violations by that exhibitor, on the same horse or another horse, the exhibitor may be barred from any or all future classes at the show and all stabling, nomination and entry fees will be forfeited.

USE OF WHIPS AND SPURSAny rider, who in the opinion of the judges, stewards or schooling supervisors, uses their whips or spurs in a cruel or excessive manner will be immediately eliminated from the class in which the incident occurred, may be suspended from further showing for a twenty-four hour period starting from the time of the incident. In the case of further violations by that exhibitor, on the same horse or another horse, the exhibitor may be barred from any or all future classes at the show in which the violations occurred and all stabling fees, nomination fees and entry fees will be forfeited. All incidents will be reported in the Steward’s and/or Technical Delegate’s Report and reviewed by USEF’s Executive Director for possible further investigation and charges for hearing before USEF’s National Hearing Committee.

RETURNED CHECKS Checks returned by the bank for any reason are regarded as a most serious offense and will be handled according to the following procedure: All returned checks will be charged an additional 10% penalty (minimum $50). Accounts will be given ten days to be paid in full with cash or cash equivalent or they will be turned in to the USEF and District Attorney for further disciplinary action.

DOGSDogs are not permitted to be loose on competition grounds and must be on a leash or otherwise contained. Individuals must not lead dogs on a leash while mounted. Dog owners failing to comply with this rule may be subject to penalty under Chapters 6 and 7, as well as issuance of warning cards. GR1301.6 Any dog that is found loose will be detained by the show until a fine is paid. Any dog that disrupts an exhibitor’s round will be required to pay the exhibitor for that round plus a $100 fine to the show. Also, please dispose of all dog waste in the proper containers.

Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic SeriesThe Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series is designed to give amateur-owner and junior riders

an opportunity to compete at higher levels and serves as a proving ground for many riders who aspire to someday represent the United States in international competition.

With classes at approximately 100 horse shows across the country, the Series hosts separate junior and amateur-owner divisions in two Conferences—East and West.

Series standings are used to help determine junior and amateur-owner entries for the National Horse Show and the Las Vegas National Horse Show.

Series winners receive year-end awards, and the Series offers Year-End Championship Finals for junior and amateur-owner riders at the National Horse Show and the Las Vegas National Horse Show.

Any horse show offering a class that meets all the criteria set forth in the Series specifications and has prize money of at least $1,000 is eligible to be part of the series.

For more information, including complete Series specifications, please visit

www.ShowJumpingHallofFame.net.
