Class Descriptions (2 hour classes)

1. Mail Basket (Tuesday only) Some may finish in the 2 hours, some may not. This is a

medium sized basket that can hang on a door or wall. It will have a leather handle.

Supplies needed: old scissors or shears, tape measure, pencil, clothes pins or 2 inch spring alligator clamps, old towel, awl, case knife, pocket knife and needle nose pliers. Dish pans will be provided.

Taught by Carol Brandon, Claiborne County Agent Cost: $20.00

2. Simply Pleasing Basket (Wednesday Only) Some may finish in the 2 hours, some may not. This basket is medium sized and has a solid base and wood handle.

Supplies needed: old scissors or shears, tape measure, pencil, clothes pins or 2 inch spring alligator clamps, old towel, awl, case knife, pocket knife and needle-nose pliers. Dish pans will be provided.

Taught by Carol Brandon, Claiborne County Agent Cost: $25.00

3. Chair Bottoming (Tuesday Only) this class could take all afternoon. A splint seat for a chair is made of wood that has been cut into long thin strips and then interwoven in a pattern. In order to seat the chair with splints the chair must have seat rails. Early American ladder-back chairs were often seated with splints. This is not the same as a caned chair, which has holes around the center hole.

Supplies needed: Chair that has been cleaned and refinished (painted, stained, or left with bare wood. Dishpan or bucket for dampening splints, old bath towel, ruler, sharp pencil, heavy duty thread or dental floss to fasten ends of strands, needle-nose pliers(long nose pliers), screw driver with flat end or a case knife(flat knife, not sharp), knife or single edged razor blade (or you can just use your shears) and 5-8 clothespins.

Taught by Mary Lou Burch, Grainger County Cost: $12.00 Splints and the directions furnished. You furnish the chair.

4. Situational Awareness In times that are not safe around us we need to be aware of what is going on at all times. Do we need to be paranoid? NO! But we should be AWARE of our surroundings. We will talk about some things we need to be aware of and also of things we can do if anything ever arises in our daily lives and if we become in fear for our lives. 5. Canning Tips and Ball Jar Crafts (Wednesday Only)

There is nothing better than a homemade gift! In this class we will explore the do’s and don’ts of homemade gifts in a jar. You will go home with two gifts ready to give and many more ideas to try later.

Taught by Heather Kyle-Harmon & Kim Spangler, UT Extension – Knox Co.

Cost: $5.00

6. Pillow Case Dresses You will learn how to make beautiful little dresses out of pillow cases. The dresses will be sent to an organization called “Homes of Love”. Take these ideas and instructions back to your county. Thank you Jacquie Dishner for making all the pillow cases!

Supplies needed: grey thread, scissors, ½ or ¼ inch any color elastic, any color 1 inch bias tape extra wide double fold, sewing machines will be furnished. Donations of 100% cotton fabric would be appreciated.

7. Human Trafficking (FCL Leader Lesson) (Wednesday morning only) What is human trafficking? Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. Victims of trafficking are exploited for commercial sex or labor purposes. Cases of human trafficking have been found in all fifty states of the United States. This class is very informative.

Taught by Connie Greiner, Campbell County Agent Cost: Free

8. Stitching Cards (Wednesday Only) Make a simple card and then a beautiful angel card. You will receive extra patterns and directions.

Supplies furnished.

9. Rug Hooking Demonstration Cathy Oaks will be demonstrating the art of rug hooking. She will have different rug hooked pieces for you to see, along with a variety of wools. She will show you how to cut the wool and hook it into a rug. She will give you a hands on demonstration to explain what you are doing. Check out the wonderful, colorful, creative world of rug hooking. This is a demonstration class only.

1. Recipes for Happy A fun class with inspiration, humor, ideas and new ways to handle old, unwanted thoughts. Learn how to handle the “Golden Years”.

2. Chicken Scratch Chicken scratch is known by many names: prairie lace, snow flaking, etc. This is an old heritage skill from the prairie days done on gingham with the double heart

design that was designed just for Spring Camp 2016.

3. Coffee Filter Flowers

Make 2 or 3 gorgeous flowers you’ll be proud to display using common, every-day round paper coffee filters.

4. Turkey Pin

Make this cute little turkey pin using fabric yo yo’s and a peanut.

5. Button Bracelet Make this pretty bracelet by sewing buttons on elastic. Supplies are furnished, but if you have special buttons you would like to use, please bring them. 30-35 buttons will make 1 bracelet.

6. Foam Dolls for the pockets of the Pillow Case Dresses (Wednesday Only) You can make these cute dolls for the hospitals, health department or for mission trips. This is a good service project to take home and share with your county.

7. Biscuits with Churned Butter Remember Charlene Asbury’s rolls and who could forget her donuts! Here she is again to show you how to make biscuits like grandma put on the table. They will also be making real churned butter for your biscuit. The recipe for the biscuits will be available for all who attend.

8. Homemade Ice Cream in a Bag

Like ice cream??? Sign up for a fun time and make “Vanilla Ice Cream” in a zip-lock bag! This is a great idea to do with grandkids, boy scouts, girl scouts, VBS activities and is super easy! Please bring a pair of warm gloves or you will have cold hands!

9. Wired Ring (Wednesday only)

How would you like to make this awesome ring for just $8.00?? You will get many compliments on it and everyone will want to make one!! Pick you own beads from the assortment I have. This will be a fun class! Taught by Mary Kay Davis, Cumberland County

10. Scams, Scams and More Scams Learn what to know and do about scams. Crooks use clever schemes to defraud millions of people every year. They often combine sophisticated technology with age-old tricks to get people to send money or give out personal information.

All Campers!!!

If you plan to take a class, you must sign up and send in your money with your registration fee. If you do not get the classes you paid for, your money will be refunded. Teachers buy and prepare for the number who have signed up and paid for their classes. Some teachers will have extra kits. Please wait until after class to request them. It is important for you to check the time of your class and attend at the stated time. We have been asked to not use electrical equipment in the bathrooms, but there are outlets you can use in the cabins. Checklist for Things to Bring:

The Scavenger Hunt paper will be given out at time of registration on Tuesday and should be finished and turned in at the “Pickin in the Parlor.” Scavenger Hunt items will be visible in the areas that we will be using. A prize will be given to the winner.

You may sign up for the Spelling Bee at the registration desk on Tuesday morning. The Spelling Bee will be Tuesday before lunch. The time will be in the program you receive on Tuesday.

You don’t want to miss the “Pickin in the Parlor.” We have so many talented FCE members and some who are just shameless! You will sing, dance and laugh till you cry! “Pickin in the Parlor is Tuesday evening at 7:30.

If you want to wear UT Volunteer colors on Wednesday, do so. Maybe we will have a sea of orange! Go Vols!!

Please sign up at the registration desk if you plan on entering the “Dolly Parton” Look-a-Like contest. The “Parade of Dolly’s will be at the banquet on Wednesday. They will be judged and the winner will be given a prize!

Decorate your tables on Wednesday with a Picnic theme. Be creative! Competition is high! The winner will receive $25.00 for their county.

The Environmental Awards will be given out at the banquet. Please FCE members we have such a beautiful world that God created for us, let’s do our part in keeping it that way. The Eastern Region will be hosting the 2017 TAFCE Conference. Bring your posters to present for judging for a theme for the state conference. Posters will be on display in the Dining Room, so be sure to decide which one you like best. The top 3 best posters will then be taken to the August TAFCE Board meeting where the winning poster will be selected by a vote from the board members. Carolyn Thomas is also our 2017 TAFCE Conference Chair.

Please bring items for General Store. You can bring clothes, shoes, what-nots, crafts (finished and unfinished), home décor, kitchen supplies, sheets, pillow cases, comforters, Books, magazines, jams, jellies, jewelry etc. In other words you can bring anything except for canned items. Remember one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

Tea Cup Auction always is lots of fun. The auction will start on Tuesday morning and will end at 3:30 on Wednesday. The winners will be posted in the dining room window. Tammy Halliburton, Eastern Region Treasurer will be taking your money.

On the Front Porch there will be a Quilt in a Frame if you would like to just sit, quilt and visit with your friends. Also there will be back in the day games to play. Bring your knitting, crochet, etc. to work on.

There will be several Night Owl Classes on Wednesday evening. Some are adult coloring then making a card, macaroni angels, bracelet with black and crystal beads, paper crafts etc. Flag Raising is at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Please try to attend!

Thanks again for bringing the overwhelming amount of items for Holston United Methodist Home for Children for our last Wrapped in Love project. The Eastern Region FCE brought a lot of smiles to the children!
