From the Pastor
Every week, I receive an email from John Hrehov who creates
wonderful bulletin covers. Each artwork details the reading for that
Sunday. This week’s picture reflected the reading from Mark 9:30-37
The verse specifically was 36 And he took a child and put him in the
midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37“Whoever
receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives
me, receives not me but him who sent me.” It’s a great image of our
LORD holding the child. A child who has no idea what’s going on. A
child who is just learning the basics of life. Sitting, walking, talking and
somewhat experiencing a new found independence. To a child, the
world is huge and great. To an adult, a child is the complete opposite,
small and tiny.
How does God view us? In God’s eyes, the child is the most
important aspect to His family. For God, we are his children. Although,
we get loud, cry, at times get a little bit obnoxious or rude, and wanting
to do whatever we want; God still reaches out for us. Never giving up
on us, God is always looking out for us. As the picture shows, Jesus has
his arms out and holds the child in His arms. Thankfully, we can say God
received us in the name of Jesus. He could’ve stayed angry and annoyed,
He could’ve given up on us but chose not to at all. God gave us Jesus to
lift us up to Him. Once we were weak but now we have grown strong in
the name of Jesus.
As God welcomes us as His children, let us welcome other
children to God’s house. Let’s receive children with God’s love and
care. Let’s lift them up in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior! Let’s
show them the love of Jesus and most importantly the love of our God.

REFORMATION
This month we celebrate Reformation. We are saved by grace through faith as Martin Luther hammered home into our hearts and minds. St Paul reminds us in Corinthians that we have been given spiritual gifts to edify the church, as we are one body in Christ, perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1st Corinthians 1:4-9 tells us “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the reve- lation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” What blessed assurance we receive from God’s Word. His Spirit works through us, His Church, using the gifts He has given us to accomplish His mission here on earth. Jesus is mine! This is His-story (The Story) to tell others as we cele- brate our re-formation and the Reformation…”that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” 1 Cor. 2:5
