FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

5/12/99

On 5/12/99, Kimberley Chlumsky, DOB 6/18/82, 6516 SouthSaulsbury Court, Littleton, Colorado, was advised of the identityof the interviewing Agent, and the nature and purpose of theinterview. She was interviewed in the presence of her Mother,Laura Chlumsky, DOB 12/6/54. She provided the followinqinformation.

On 4/20/99, Kimberley arrived at the Columbine HighSchool, at approximately 7:15 a.m., and reported to her normalclasses. Her last class prior to first period lunch was studioart. She went directly to the cafeteria with her friend Marcievisnic. They initially sat at table R or possiblY W. Instead ofeating lunch in the cafeteria, they decided to drive to Marcie'shouse. When they exited the school, they exited on the south sideof the cafeteria and walked to the junior parking lot. Theydidn't take note of anyone in the parking lot at the time. Theyleft the school and went to Marcie's before the shooting incidentcommenced. After they ate lunch at Marcie's, they attempted todrive back to school, but the roads were all blocked off by lawenforcement. As they drove back in the vicinity of Kimberley'shouse, they observed Brooks Brown enter a sport utility vehicle, possibly blue in color, in the vicinity of Hoover and TellerAvenues in Littleton, only about 4-5 blocks from Columbine Highschool. Kimberley knew this to be Brooks Brown, because he is ina world history class with her. They then went back toKimberley'S house, and watched the news coverage on television.

At no time did Kimberley see anyone carrying duffelbags or packages that stood out in her mind, or that seemed outof the ordinary. She had seen Klebold and Harris as well asother Trench Coat Mafia (TCM) members/associates around school, but didn't know or socialize with any of them. She doesn't recallseeing either Klebold or Harris around school on either Monday orTuesday. She also doesn't recall seeing any other TCM membersaround schOol on Monday or Tuesday, however she also added thatshe doesn't pay much attention to TCM members to begin with.

Kimberley has never heard of other suspects, gun buyingor bomb making either before or after the shooting. She does usethe Internet, but does not have a screen name or leQ accountnumber.

He said Harris liked German"industrial • music and American "techno-music." He d.escribeci Harrisas a person who was nice, polite, and quiet, and who did not talkvery mucn, He was aware that Harris had worked at the Blackjackpizza and commented that he and Nate Dykeman would often go thereand have lunch with Harris. He explained. that he was more of afriend to Dykeman than to Harris but because Dykeman was friendswith Harris and Klebold. he would often be in all of their company. He knew that Harris' group of friends included Dykeman as well asChris Morris. Robert Perry, Brian Sargent, Zach Heckler, and DustinGorton.

Regarding Dylan Klebold, Eric Christner advised that he met himwhen they were both in the tenth grade and since then, had severalclasses together, He stated that they would often play the card gameof Spades while in the cafeteria. He said Klebcld was a good studentbut not as good a student as Harris. He stated that K1ebo1d liked totalk about baseball and music and they shared those commoninterests. He said that Klebold was sometimes rebellious in that hedid not agree with some rules, such as the school smoking policy. Headvised that Klebold would sit in his own car in the parking lot and

smoke rather than smoke in the school's designated area. He recalledthat Klebold had once been suspended over sornrthing to do wit.h theschool's comput.ers - he could not remember what. that was about. Hebelieved that both Harris and Klebold were trying to "get along,"but they did not. seem to fit in and would ignore students they didnot like.

Eric Christner advised that he had heard of no rumors relatingt.o t.he incident and that this had been a total surprise.

Mrs. Christner advised that Eric's younger brother, Mark hadbeen at school t.hat day. This investigator spoke to him briefly andwas advised that he had been outside of the west. door of thecafeteria when the shooting began. He stated he heard what sounded

like firecrackers and saw three students fall to the ground. He saidhe was with his friends. Will Beck. James Stewart, and Kyle Bramlettand thought Will Beck told him that he had seen the person shootinga gun.

OBSERVATION / INVESTIGATION:

On June 1, 1999 I was assigned an interview with Columbine High Sohoolstudent, Jason Cornelies. On June 1st I contacted Tammy Ibsen, Jason'smother, and made an appointment for an interview for 1500 on June 2, 1999.

On June 2nd I arrived at 6342 West Maplewood Drive and contacted JasonCornelies. Jason confirmed that he had attended Columbine High School andhad been in the twelfth grade, he had graduated last month.

Jason continued to say that he had been in school on April 20, 1999.Jason said that he had not been in the cafeteria at all during the morningof April 20th. He advised that he had lunch from approximately 11:00AM to12:00PM. Jason con~inued to say that he had left the building and went tolunch at the McDonalds restaurant at South pierce Street and Coal MineRoad. Jason said that he had been accompanied to lunch by the followingpeople:

Natalie GreenMatt MayhewRobin Piro

Jason advised that he left the school building by way of the main entrancenear the office. He advised that he had parked his car across South PierceStreet On West Fair Avenue. They then drove to the McDonalds.

Jason advised that while they were leaving the school they did notencounter either Eric Harris or Dylan Klebold nor did he notice anythingunusual going on. Jason thought it was about 10:50AM when they left the

building. Jason stated that they returned to school about 11:15AM andfound a large group of students gathered in Leawood Park across the streetfrom the school, and police cars were arriving at the school. Jason saidthat he parked his car on West Fair Avenue, and they began talking to thestudents in the park and learned that there had been a shooting in theschool. Jason stated that while he was standing in the park he heard shotsand thought someone was shooting at the people in the park. Jason said itsounded like the shots were coming from the area of math rooms on the mainlevel. Jason continued to say that he thought he observed a person on theschool roof but he did not know if this was a shooter. Jason did not seewho was doing the shooting. Jason stated that after they heard the shotshe and his friends got into his car and left the area, going to his house.

Jason said that prior to going to lunch he had been in a marketingclass which was located in the lower level class rooms, in the second roomsouth of the hall between the auditorium and cafeteria. Jason also saidthat while walking between classes and on his way to lunch he did notobserve anyone with a gun nOr did he see anyone carrying a large duffeltype bag.

Jason said that he has known Dylan Klebold sinoe seventh or eightgrade, though he hasn't had any contact with Dylan recently. Jasoncontinued to say that he had a video class with Eric Harris during thefirst semester (fall ~9ge) of this school year. He advised that Eric hadsat directly behind him. Jason said that outside of class he did notassociate with Harris and did not calk to Harris outside of the class.Jason said that he has known about the Trench Coat Mafia since juniorhigh school. He also advised that Harris had talked about the Trench CoatMafia during a presentation for a class. Jason said that he presentationdid not deal with the shooting but was just a general view about the group.Jason advised tha the Trench Coat Mafia was started by a group of kids thatdid not seem to fit in any place in school, the misfits. Jason advisedthat he had no confrontations with anyone involved with the group recently. He did say that when he was in the seventh grade he was involved in a fightwith a possible memeber of the group, Todd Bowels, but nothing has happenedsince then.

Jason related that he could not believe that Dylan had been involvedin such a thing and from what he knew about Dylan, Dylan did not have thatsort of thing inside of him. Jasen thought that Dylan had come under theinfluence of some outside person. Jason continued to say that he noticedthat Eric Harris seemed to be very troubled inside. This was especiallyapparent if he was talking about the Trench Coat Mafia or his beliefs andsomeone would question them. He would become very angry. Jason advisedthat he has had no contact with Dylan since Dylan started becomingweirder. By that he meant Dylan began to wear the black trench coat, fatigue pants, boots and beret on a regular basis. Jasen stated that hehad not spoken with either Harris or Klebold before the shootings.

Jason advised that he had heard no rumors about the shootingsoccurring before April 20th, and neither had he heard any rumors aboutthem building bombs or buying guns.

Jason advised that his Sister, Tara. had been in a science class atthe time of the shootings and she had not been interviewed.

***********************************************.***********.********

en 5/26/99 I contacted 17 year old CBS student Michael Croll at his

home number of 303-978-9248. Mike agreed to speak with me about theshootings at CHS.

Mike acknowledged he is an "A" lunch student. On 4/20/99 he left the

school wieh Denise Berrit through the studene entrance by RebelCorner downstairs in the cafeteria. They walked out together around11:15am to the senior parking lot and drove away from ehe school inMike's green Saturn. They did not see anything inside or outside of

the school, specifically a large duffle bag or any students acting

suspicious.

They attempted to return after eating at McDonalds around 11:4Qam.They saw several police and students around Pierce and Fair street.Mike pulled over on Fair street, across from the school to find outwhat was going on. There were several students in Leawood park, and

some were talking about a student having a gun. Shortly aftergetting out of his vehicle, he heard "pop, pop", which he thought tobe gunshots coming from the school. Someone in the crowd yelled"they are shooting at us" and everyone, inclUding Mike ran furtheraway from the school. Mike did not see anyone shooting a gun, nor

does he know who yelled they were being shot at. He left the area on

foot.

Mike stated that his friend, Janelle Thibault told him she saW RobertPerry walking near the public library immediately after the

shootings. She told Mike she found this odd, as Robert WaS no longer

a student at CHS. Mike advised me he heard this directly from

Janelle and does not know if she has been interviewed by an

Investigator. According to Mike, Janelle was in physics class at CBS

during 5th hour on 4/20/99, and was out of the school very quickly.

Mike had nothing further to aM.

Cruz advised InvestigatorEaton that because of what happened at Columbine High Sehool onApril 20, 1999, she was now concerned about the phrase of the day.She advised that it especially concerned her because Harris andKlebold to her knowledge are both members of the Rebel News Networkstaff and would have someching to do with the announcements and thephrase of the day.
