Handwritten paper note on an end table.

. I personally searched the following places but found nothing of obviousevidentiary value:

• A small crawlspace located on the lower level of the home. Access tothe crawlspace was via a small door installed in the wall of a utility andpantry area, Numerous assorted items of property were stored in thecrawlspace including closed moving boxes, home accessories, furniture, and luggage. Many of the boxes were marked with the names of Harrisfamily members. Most of the boxes bearing Eric's name were stored inthe back corner of the crawlspace and did not appear to have recentlybeen opened. I did not search these boxes as numerous other objectsblocked access to them.

• A very small storage attic located in the ceiling above the garage. Theattic held several boxes containing Christmas decorations.

• A vehicle parked in the garage of the residence-a 1995 Toyota.Carnry4-door sedan bearing Colorado L1C/GAD5859. I searched thepassenger areas, glove compartment and trunk.

At the request of Investigator Zimmerman, I photographed several smallfragments of broken material which were located outside the residence onthe surface of a concrete slab in a fenced backyard area along the side ofthe garage. The fragments were found scattered in two small areas that Idesignated in the photographs using photo markers #1 and #2. Thematerial appeared to be broken glass and broken pieces of hard plastic orelectronic circuit board material. After photographing 'me fragments,

Jessica Barrett and I collected them and marked the packages as #1 and#2 corresponding to the areas from which they were collected. Thepackages were then given to the investigators to be included with the otherevidence items collected at the residence.

At about 0110 hours on 04/21/99, Jess Barrett and I completed theassignment and we left the residence along with the other investigators. Auniformed sheriff's deputy was still securing the home at that time.

On 04/21/99, while restocking an evidence kit that I'd used during thesearch warrant, I found three pieces of paper in the kit which had beencollected as evidence from Eric Harris' bedroom and had mistakenly beenplaced in the kit during evidence handling. The papers were as follows:

1. A photocopy of page 122 from THE ANARCHIST COOKBOOK. Thepage, entitled "Household Substitutes," listed 38 chemicals together witha listing of household substitutes for that chemical (e.g.: ChemicalName: Acetic Acid Household Substitute: Vinegar).

2. A handwritten description of two fictitious creatures, possibly computergame characters, named "DARK VAPOR" and "HELL DOG," and handdrawn sketches of both creatures.

3. Five or six hand drawn sketches showing fictitious animals, bug-likecreatures, andlor faces.

It is unknown who collected these pages or where in Eric's room they werefound. I photocopied the pages and gave the originalS to Littleton LeadDetective Joan Schroer who said she would deliver them to the appropriateinvestlgator(s) at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. I forwardedthe photocopies to the LIttleton Police records file.

The photographs taken during the Harris search warrant were contained onseven rolls of 36-exposure film. I did not complete a photo log when takingthe photos. Rolls #2 through #6 contained photos showing the search

warrant only. Rolls #1 and #7 contained photos showing the searchwarrant and other photos that I'd taken before and after the search warrantusing the same film rolls on unrelated Littleton Police cases.

On 04/26/99, I submitted rolls #1 and #7 to Englewood Camera to bedeveloped into negatives only. I picked up the negatives on 04/29/99.

On 04/29/99, I submitted rolls #2 through #6 to the Arapahoe County. Sheriff's Department photo lab and requested that they be developed only.

On 04/30/99, Arapahoe Sheriff Criminalist Tom Adair picked up thesedeveloped rolls from his lab, and picked up rolls #1 and #7 from me. Hethen reportedly delivered all of the negatives to Criminalist Jim Jennings atthe Jefferson County Sheriff's Department lab. To my knowledge, no printswere made of any of the photographs by either Englewood Camera or theArapahoe Sheriff's lab.

On 05/11/99, I examined all of the photo negatives at the Jefferson CountySheriff's lab in the presence of Criminalist Jim Jennings. At Jenningsrequest, I prepared a written photo log that generally describes eachexposure on the seven rolls of film that I'd photographed during the Harrissearch warrant. I gave Jennings the original photo log and kept a copy forLittleton Police records.

OBSERVATION/INVESTIGATION:

CR. 99038856

On Tuesday, April 20, 1999, I responded to Columbine High School to assistwith the developing investigation of the murders at that school. I wasdirected by sgt. Don Girson to respond totllllllllllllll with members ofthe Sheridan Police Department. The Reed~at of EricHarris, one of the suspected shooters. I was directed to contact anyfamily members on scene, learn what I could of Eric Harris' background, and secure the residence pending application for and issuance of a searchwarrant.

upon our arrival, we contacted Wayne Harris, Kathy Harris and KarenShepard, the occupants. According to Mr. Harris, "the press" had alreadybeen at their door. And, while they were reser,ed, the Harrisesvolunteered to intercede with their son if,he were in fact involved withthe ongoing situation. The Harrises were awaiting the arrival of theirlawyer.

Mr. Harris identified his san as Erio David Harris, date of birth:040981. Mr. Harris said he had no reason to believe his san would beinvolved with such a situation. Eric Harris had been in contact withMarine Corps recruiters, and he was looking forward to graduation. EricHarris' last grade reports included 2 A's, 2 B's and a C. He was gainfUllyemployed at a nearby Blackjack Pizza.

Eric Harris ware a black duster "everyday." But, he had no particularinterest in the Jugoslavian conflict or with the celebration of Ritler'sbirthday. His interest in "explosives" and firearms was no more than youwould expect from a person looking forward to joining the Marine Corps,

Upon our arrival, Lt. Iantorno and his men "cleared" the residence toinsure our safety. We had been warned Erio Harris might be on scene andpose a threat. During their efforts, they observed in Eric Harris' roomwhat appeared to be a "device." As we: talked with the Harrises, the aromaof gasoline became inoreasingly oppreSSive. Consequently, we cleared theresidence and asked the fire department to respond. A pumper from theLittleton Police Department arrive, and it was determine the gasoline vaporwas present in an explosive concentration. Subsequently, the device wasremoved and the home ventilated without further incident.

Shortly after we left the residence awaiting arrival of the firedepartment, the Harris' lawyer arrived. He identified himself as BenColkitt, 2303 E. Dartmouth Ave., Englewood, CO 80110, telephone:303/584-0308, cell: 303/332-4~49, pager: 303/528-2368. Colkittexplained he had been retained to represent Eric Harris. While the familywanted to cooperate in any way they could, Calkitt directed the policewere nat to talk with Eric Harris in the absence of Colkitt if Harris weretaken into custody. I so informed Sgt. Girson by radio.

After the home was made safe, the Harrises left with their lawyer.

While we were waiting for the fire department and bomb squad to make safethe Harris home, ! was approached by Bill Konen, their next door neighbor.According to Konen, on Monday, April 19, 1999, at about 0900 hrs., hisneighbor, the highschool senior who wears a duster, was visiting with hisfriend who drives a black BMW. Konen thought the neighbor's name was Eric.Konen heard the friend ask Eric if he had an aluminum ball bat. AfterwardKonen heard "crashing", like the sound of glass breaking, coming from t::'eHarris garage for fifteen or twenty minutes.

Konen said he had minimal interaction with Eric, but Eric was always verypolite. He was quiet and didn't say much.

Lt. Iantorno and his men returned to the command post, and I maintainedsecurity until Det. Miller returned to remain with me. While they weregone, I was approached by Josh Lapp. Lapp was very intense, and he wascarrying a 1998 Columbine High School yearbook. Lapp told me he had beenin the school library when the shooting started. He got a good look at theshooters and recognized them as fellow students. After escaping and makinghis way home, Lapp found the two shooters in the year book. On page 128,Lapp showed mew a picture of Dylan Klebold. On page 125, he showed me a

picture of Eric Harris. Then on page 120, he showed me a "better picture"of Ha=is. According to Lapp, Ha=is and Kle.bold were the onlyassailants.

Det. Miller and I were relieved By Dpty. Dale Scott at 1718 hrs.

Later, I returned to the house with Sgt. Dan McCasky and others to assistmembers of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department with execution of asearch warrant. During the search, I located on the kitchen table ahandwritten note which appeared to be an "itinerary" eetailing plans forthe day's assault on the high school.
