Colour, form and texture are the basic tools specifiers have

at their disposal to create an attractive facade. A wide

range of colours is now available in modern cementitious

renders.Where the specifier requires colours that are

outside the technical possibilities with cementitious

materials, modern basecoat renders in conjunction with

high performance synthetic coatings are available to fit the

bill with the same render reliability.

NCS Colour Reference

The information contained within this colour card will help thespecifier to select the most appropriate colour and product fortheir project. The colours contained within this card correspond tothe NCS reference range.

The colour representations in this card are as close as printingtechniques permit.

For the reasons stated above, final selection against actualsamples is strongly recommended. These are freely and readily

available fromWeber.

LRV (%) - Light Reflectance Value

Coloured surfaces reflect light and heat; the lighter the colour, thehigher the reflectance. The amount of light that is reflected from asurface is given as a percentage where white has a value of 100%and black has a value of 0%.

Dark coloured surfaces reflect less light resulting in moreabsorption. The absorbed energy eventually gets converted toheat. On ExternalWall Insulation Systems the heat generatedwithin the render has no where to dissipate resulting in greaterstress on the surface finish.

Dark coloured acrylic products with an LRV less than 25% will bemore prone to surface tension cracking.

Similarly, dark coloured silicone products with an LRV less than30%will also be more prone to surface tension cracking.

Guidance for successful colour & product selection

Colour appearance will vary naturally according to productnature, substrate, surface finish and orientation. In particular,cementitious and synthetic product colours are fundamentallydifferent in composition and hence finished appearance. There isno guarantee that the colour will be exactly the same fromproduct to product and in particular, betweenmineral rendersand synthetic products.

It is an unrealistic expectation that manufacturers can produceexact colour matching from:

• Product to product- The rawmaterials and pigment additions used tomanufacture acrylic products are different from thoseused in silicone based products.

• Finish to finish- The colour of a painted finish on a plain faced renderwill always look different to the same colour with a1.5mm or 3mm textured finish

To ensure product and colour acceptability, samples showingcolour and texture must be requested every time. These are freelyand readily available fromWeber.

Good Practice

To ensure colour consistency, the material required for completeand adjoining panels should be of the same batch number or bethoroughly mixed together before use
