Colour Grading Lost in the EveHELK

Why did we colour grade?•We colour graded our short film because we had filmed it

during the day as we needed to incorporate the availability of our actors, despite our film being set at night. Furthermore, we thought that it would look better colour grading to make it look dark as the camera’s we used are not made to film in the dark; the image would have become all pixelated and unusable, even changing the iso wouldn’t help.

What did we use to colour grade?• We were going to use Adobe Premiere Pro to colour grade but then

we decided not to as when we tested it made the test footage look too blue and not look like it was set in the evening. We used Edius Pro 7 to colour grade and edit in the end as Edius allowed us to colour grade in three stages, improving the quality of our colour grading: it allowed us to equalise the YUV across all the footage and allowed us to layer the colours as blue alone didn’t allow us to get the perfect colour, the first layer is yellow which darkened certain colours and brought the ones we wanted more out, the final layer was blue. On this layer we looked for a certain shade of blue and then turned down the opacity of this layer so it wasn’t too blue and didn’t leave any unnecessary tinge.
