2005 Database
• Two primary concerns– Completeness of the dataset– Literature evaluation/review
• Standardization• Original references• Duplication of some data
• Example from 2005 db– Many references like: Meuwis and Heuts, 1957 as cited in Spotila, J.R., et al., 1979
– Need to go back and evaluate study from original article.
Strategy for new DB
• Intensive literature search• Take personal judgment out of the equation
– Include results from all available studies on tolerance, optima, preference/avoidance
– Include qualifiers in the database to allow database queries that limit returned results based on pre-established criteria
• It’s up to the user to provide acceptable justification for their query criteria
• Provides rough double-check for rank orders – i.e., is UILT rank order reflected in CTM, or optima
rank orders?
Current status
• Warmwater literature search: 100%• Warmwater literature collected: 98%• Warmwater data entered: 95%• Coldwater literature search: 100%• Coldwater literature collected: 60%• Coldwater data entered: 15%
Work Schedule– Data entry/review part-time in May/June, after most warmwater
literature was collected.– Data entry/review full time as of July 10 through early August.
