Colorado PGA Women’s Championship

Cherry Creek Country Club played host to the first event Colorado PGA Women’s Championship and we couldn’t have asked for a better host site! It was refreshing to see not only the competition but the

comradery of everyone that played in the event.

Congratulations to Alexandra Braga, PGA on winning the inaugural event. Braga, an Assistant Professional from Denver Country Club posted a three-under-par 141 to beat Sherry Andondian, PGA of Valley Country Club who posted an even-par 144.

Pro-Superintendent

I had the chance to compete in the 2016 Pro-Superintendent event at The Club at Ravenna and had a great time! This new event is a great way to promote teamwork and enhance the relationship between our association and the Golf Course Superintendents Association. Thank you to Tom Bauerle and his team from Colorado Golf and Turf for their support.

I look forward to playing again next year and seeing many more of you sign up for this event!

Section Championship Registration

Registration for the Senior Section Championship and the Section Championship both remain open. The Senior Section Championship, which will be hosted at Indian Peaks Golf Club in Lafayette, CO on August 15-16, 2016, has a registration deadline of Wednesday, July 27, 2016. The deadline to register for the Section Championship is set for

Wednesday, August 24, 2016. The event will be held September 12-14, 2016 at Cherry Creek Country Club in Denver, CO.

Drive, Chip and Putt Championship

The Drive, Chip and Putt Championship has been incredibly successful this year. We at Murphy Creek Golf Club hosted the fourth of six local qualifiers on Thursday, July 7, 2016. More than 200 juniors came out to take a shot at punching their card on the “Road to Augusta.” If you haven’t had a chance to get involved in this program you are missing out! Be sure to take a look at the Junior Golf Section of this issue to check out all of the results!

Colorado Junior PGA Championship

The second major of the season under the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado is taking place this week at Indian Tree Golf Club. The Colorado PGA Junior Championship will be held over three days, July 13-15, 2016.

The boy’s field will be highlighted by AJ Ott from Ft. Collins, CO and Davis Bryant from Aurora, CO. Ott won the 2015 Tournament of Champions, finished second at the PGA Junior Series at Eisenhower Golf Club and is committed to play at the Colorado State University. Bryant posted a third place finish in the PGA Junior Series at Eisenhower Golf Club and sits in third place in the Player of the Year standings.

On the girls side, look out for Mary Weinstein of Highlands Ranch, CO. Weinstein won the first Major Championship of the season at Eisenhower Golf Club and is the defending 5A State Champion.

PGA of America UpdatePGA Professional Championship, Annual Meeting and More!

District 9 Director Report

Kyle Heyen, PGA

District 9 Director

PGA of America

Head Professional

Hiwan Golf Club

By Kyle Heyen, PGAPGA Professional Championship

Rich Berberian Jr., with his father’s “lesson of a lifetime” swirling in his head, rolled home a 33-foot uphill birdie putt on the 18th green to capture an improbable victory Wednesday in the 49th PGA Professional Championship at Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, New

York.

The closing dramatics by the 28-year-old PGA Assistant Professional at Windham Country Club in Derry, New Hampshire, capped a rollercoaster final seven holes where Berberian overcame a triple bogey on the 12th hole with birdies on holes No. 13, 16 and 18.

He finished with a 3-under-par 69, a one-stroke triumph over Mark Brown of Oyster Bay, New York, and Omar Uresti of Austin, Texas, for a winning total of 11-under-par 277. Berberian is the second-youngest PGA Professional Champion, trailing Howell Fraser, who was 15 days younger when upon claiming victory in 1968.

The following Colorado Section of the PGA members represented us at our PGA Professional Championship.

Erik Billinger, Caine Fitzgerald, Jeff Hanson, Rob Hunt, Barry Milstead, Ari Papadopoulos, Doug Rohrbaugh, Kyle Voska and Doug Wherry.

Meet the candidates for PGA of America Secretary

PGA members Russ Libby, Rick Murphy and Jim Richerson are the declared candidates for the office of PGA of America Secretary. The election will be held on Nov. 11, 2016, at the 100th PGA Annual Meeting in New

York City.

The process for selecting the next national PGA Secretary began earlier this year with four PGA Super Regional Meetings. The gatherings, which brought together leaders within their respective regions, enabled candidates for Secretary to deliver their platforms to Section delegates.

To find out more about the candidates you can visit PGA.org.

The 100th PGA Annual Meeting

The 100th PGA Annual Meeting will be held this year at the Grand Hyatt (next to Grand Central) in New York City. Delegate arrival will be on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and the meeting will conclude on Friday, November 11.

The schedule for the Annual Meeting will be as follows:

• Tuesday, Nov. 8: Welcome Reception

• Wednesday, Nov. 9: Informal Session, Special Awards Evening

• Thursday, Nov. 10: Informal Session, Centennial Celebration, President’s Evening

• Friday, Nov 11: General Session, Election, Closing Reception

PGA Championship

The PGA Championship will be held at the historic Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield New Jersey, July 28-31. The PGA Championship has been shifted to July for first time since 1968, to accommodate the Olympics.

The Championship continues to be a platform to elevate the role of the PGA Professional.

Its financial success enables to us to invest in our mission.

We look forward to a great Championship and to see if Jason Day can defend his title.

Member recognition

Congratulations to the following Colorado Section members for their years of dedication to the PGA of America and just becoming a PGA of America member.

PGA Junior Golf League

Thank you to the Colorado Section Staff and all our Section PGA Members and Apprentices who are making this years PGA Junior Golf League a success. If it were not for you the program would not be a success.

A great PGA Junior League story. At Hiwan vs Lake Valley at Lake Valley. One of my 7 year old juniors on his first hole made a hole in one on a 120 yard hole. He is a celebrity at Hiwan.

Please share your stories as we can spread the word and continue growing the game of golf at the junior level.

Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Wow! It seems like winter just ended a couple of weeks ago and now

already the days are getting shorter. It sure has been a very busy month if June for the Colorado PGA, as I am sure it has been very busy for each and every one of you. I’ll be brief this month as I know everyone is pressed

for time.

I wanted to thank each and every one of you that took the time to complete the Membership Survey to provide us with the necessary information for our committed to make recommendations to our Board of Directors on how best to serve you. With your input we can begin planning on how best we meet your needs as we plan for this upcoming Fall and Winter Programs, as well for the 2017 Golf Season. Additionally, I would led like to encourage you to attend one of our Section Roundtables so you can network with your fellow PGA Professionals and also let us know first hand what you’d like to see from your Section. You’ll find a complete list of dates and locations inside this months newsletter.

June is always a big fundraising month for our Foundation, Colorado PGA REACH. My thanks to each of you that contributed either a round of golf from your facility or a bottle of wine for the wine auction. Combining what we raised at the Colorado Avid Golfer Magazine Corporate Cup and the Colorado PGA REACH Invitational we raised over $55,000.00 to help support all the great work out PGA Professionals are doing through our three pillars; Youth Development, Supporting Our Military, and Diversity & Inclusion. It sure was a proud moment for all of us who were present when SGT Adam Cassidy found out that he was

good my to receive a mortgage free home! What a privilege it is to serve those who have given so much in service to our country!!!

In closing let me encourage you to take time to tee it up in one of our Pro Ams, or even better, tee it up in one of our Section Championships. We are playing some wonderful venues and these are great opportunities to enjoy the reason why we all got into this business. To play.

Hope all is going well for you and your team as we all are right in the middle of golf season. Please let any of us on your Colorado PGA Section Team know if we can be of any assistance.

Thank You for the opportunity to serve.

Very Respectfully,

Eddie Ainsworth, PGA

PGA of America president Der-ek Sprague will attend the 2016

Colorado PGA Fall Membership Meeting. Sprague is the Managing Director of Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was formally elected as PGA President at the 2014 PGA Annual Meeting. Previously, Sprague served as PGA Vice President and PGA Secretary.

For 27 years, Sprague served as General Manager and Director of Golf at Malone (N.Y.) Golf Club, his hometown course, where he was involved with all aspects of the facility’s operations. In 2016, Sprague was named Managing Director of Liberty National and is now a member of the New Jersey PGA Section.

Since 1998, Sprague has held leadership roles at both the national and Section levels. He was a member of the PGA Board of Directors from 2007-10, and well as a number of key PGA Committees. Sprague began service on the Northeastern New York PGA Board of Directors in 1998, and served as Section President from 2003-2004.

Sprague will offer a “state of the industry’’ update on the current mission and vision of a national organization with nearly 28,000 members.

In addition to Sprague, Dow Finsterwald, the 1958 PGA Champion and longtime Director of Golf at The Broadmoor will be the featured guest during a fireside chat following the meeting.

For 28 years

Dow Finsterwald served as director of golf at The Broadmoor, succeeding Ed Dudley. Dow won 12 PGA Tour events, including the 1958 PGA Championship the first year it went to medal play. Finsterwald lost in the finals of match play the year before to Lionel Hebert.

Dow won the Vardon Trophy (70.30 stroke average) in 1957, was 1958 PGA Player of the Year, and lost the 1962 Masters title in a playoff to best friend Arnold Palmer.

Dow made the Ryder Cup teams of 1957, ‘59, ‘61 and ‘63; captained the 1977 Ryder Cup team; was a member of the PGA Tournament Committee 1957-59; was a PGA of America vice-president 1976-78; served on the USGA Rules of Golf Committee 1979-81; and has

been a member since 1979 of the Masters Tournament Rules Committee. All of that underscores the respect in which he is held for his judgment and playing abilities.

In 2006, Dow was inducted into the PGA of America Golf Professional Hall of Fame, and two years later he went into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

Colorado PGA REACH Partners with UniGolf to Donate Home To Hero

The 2016 Colorado PGA REACH Invitational present-

ed by UniGolf and PGA REACH ended in tremendous fashion on June 27, 2016 when the Colorado PGA REACH Foundation awarded a mortgage-free home to Retired US Army Sergeant Adam Cassidy and his family.

The home was given away in conjunction with the Military Warriors Support Foundation and their Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program. The homes donated through this program are for families who have severe and/or unique circumstances due to their injuries received while serving our country. In addition to the home, the families will receive 3 years of family and financial mentoring. Over the last five years, the Military Warrior Support Foundation has awarded more than 700 mortgage-free homes to combat-wounded veterans and surviving spouses.

Cassidy retired from the US Army after nearly six years of service. In October of 2007 Cassidy volunteered to deploy and was sent to Mosul, Iraq in December of that year. While in Iraq, Cassidy and his convoy were hit with IEDs, RPGs, grenades and small weapon fire. His vehicle rolled several times and he sustained a number of serious injuries during the ordeal. Cassidy served a total of 15 months in Iraq before he returned home with injuries from combat in February 2009. During his deployment Cassidy earned the following awards during my deployment: Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense

Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge. Cassidy, who grew up in northwest Ohio, currently lives in Southwest Colorado with his fiance Kayla, 2 beautidul daughters, Delilah who is 6 and Liberty who is 10 months old, and 4 dogs.

The donation of the home was made possible by UniGolf, Bob Longmire and his wife Millie.

Thank you goes out to all of the event partners, Colorado PGA REACH Trustees, member professionals and amateurs who took part in the 2016 Colorado PGA REACH Invitational presented by UniGolf and PGA REACH.

Assistant Professional from Denver Country Club led wire-to-wire in winning the first annual Colorado PGA Women’s Championship on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Cherry Creek Country Club. Braga posted a strong first round score of two-under-par 70 to hold a four stroke lead going into the second round over Sherry Andonian, PGA Instructor at Valley Country Club. Braga needed a strong finish to win the championship and got one as she played her last eight holes in three-under-par to shoot a 1-under 71, giving her a 3-under 141 total and a three-stroke victory for the Championship. Andonian, the highest finishing female professional on the Dow Finsterwald Player of the Year points list the last few years birdied the ninth hole to get within one of Braga in the final round couldn’t put together a successful

In third place was Stefanie Ferguson, an LPGA Professional from CommonGround Golf Course who finished in third place at 152 after two straight 76s. sletter Three Colorado PGA Professionals Make National Championship Cut

Vlosich Headed to US Senior Open for Fifth TimeRon Vlosich added to an already Hall of Fame

career on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Lake Valley Golf Course as he qualified for his fifth U.S. Senior Open Championship. Vlosich, the longtime Director of Golf at Green Gables Coun-try Club in Lakewood, CO fired a one-under-par to claim medalist honors and earn a spot in the national championship to be played at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.

““It’s nice to go back,” the 59-year-old said. “You just wish your game was sharper to com-pete with all those (PGA Tour Champions) guys who are so good. But it’s always fun to go and chop it around. My game is not on that (tour) level, to be honest with you. But it’s encouraging to break par today.”

Vlosich wasn’t the only qualifier to make it to the Senior Open. He was joined by Saratoga, Wyo. ama-teur John Hornbeck who earned final national berth by posting an even-par 70 and prevailing in a playoff over four players, including PGA Professional Doug Wherry of Jake’s Academy.

Vlosich, a five-time Colorado PGA Player of the Year and three-time Section Champion competed in the Senior Open in 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2014. He has also competed in the US Open, PGA Championship and twice made it to the Senior PGA Championship.

Caine Fitzgerald, a PGA Assistant Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora, CO was the

low finisher among Colorado PGA Professionals in the 2016 PGA Professional Championship held at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY. Fitzgerald, the 2012 Col-orado PGA Professional Champion and a two-time Section Player of the Year fired rounds of 73-71-74-74 for a 4-over-par 292 total.

The winner of the championship was Rich Berberian, a PGA Assistant Professional at Windham Country Club in Windham, NH. Berberian and the other top-20 finishes all qualified for the 2016 PGA Championship to be played later this month at Baltusrol Country Club in New Jersey.

Fitzgerald wasn’t the only Colorado PGA Professional to make the cut as two other players played all four rounds of the Championship. Doug Rohrbaug, the PGA Director of Golf at Ironbridge Golf Club and the

three-time defending Colorado PGA Professional Championship ended up in 59 place while Ari Papadopoulos, PGA Head Professional at the Norman Course at Red Sky Golf Club finished 63rd.

Below are the scores of all of the Colorado PGA Professionals who competed in the Championship:

sletter JGAC– Meeting Expectations and Then Some! The Junior Golf Alliance of Colora-

do, the joint junior golf program between the Colorado PGA and the Colorado Golf Association, while in its’ infancy, has taken huge strides halfway through the season. In all there are more than 800 juniors who have signed up for membership, already surpassing the total number of members in 2015.

The success of the collaboration is due in part to the staffs of both organizations coming together. “The unification of the organizations has gone even better than we could have expected,” noted Dustin Jensen, Director of Operation for the Colorado Golf Association and the lead staff member from their Association. “We feel like we have only scratched the surface regarding what we can do for junior golfers in Colorado thanks to this partnership.”

The collaboration includes four major championships, one of which has already taken place on the Blue Course at the Eisenhower Golf Club at the Air Force Academy, a Junior Tour for players hoping to earn a college scholarship, a Junior Series for players looking to develop their talent and much more.

There are a number of reasons for those involved to be proud of the success so far. “The growth, development and engagement of junior golfers is what we are most proud of so far,” said Keith Soriano, PGA Assistant Executive Director of Foundation Programs and the

Colorado PGA lead staff member of the program. “We’re already in a place where we have more kids actively participating in not only tournament events, but across the entire suite of JGAC products; PGA Junior League, Drive, Chip, and Putt, The Solich Leadership Academy and Golf in Schools.”

While there have been many steps forward, the potential to take leaps ahead still remains. “Here in Colorado, I can only see an upward trajectory for the JGAC, with more and more PGA Professionals, Parents, Clubs, Corporations, and Associations looking to partner with us,” noted Soriano. “We are on a mission to partner with people who believe what we believe – that the game of golf is for everyone and the positive impact that it can have on the lives of children, parents, families, and communities is worth dedicating time, talent and treasure to.”

It’s safe to say that the sky is the limit with the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado leading the way!

On a day when temperatures were high and scores were low, Roger Nakagawa and Kailer Rundiks teamed

up to capture the inaugural JGAC Team Championship at Legacy Ridge Golf Course hosted by PGA Professional Joe Carlton. On the ladies’ side, Hailey Schalk and Marie Jordaan claimed the title. In route to victory, both teams fired im-pressive under par rounds, with the Nakagawa/Rundiks team shooting a 5-under 67 and the Schalk/Jordaan team shooting 2-under 70.

In a format that included best ball, scramble, and alternate shot and with terrific course conditions, birdies were easy to come by, especially for our champions. Team Nakagawa/Rundiks made six birdies on the day, offset by

WEINSTEIN WINS!

Colorado Junior AmateurEinsenhower Golf Club | June 13-15, 2016

A year ago, when Mary Weinstein of Highlands Ranch won the CWGA Junior Stroke Play,

she was asked if she had accomplished anything major in golf prior to that.

"I said 'no'," Weinstein recounted on Wednesday. "So finally I can say 'yes', and it's a great feeling."

Actually, Weinstein has been able to say yes recently to that question for multiple reasons. In addition to winning the CWGA Junior Stroke Play and the CJGA Junior Series Championship in 2015, she had the best finish ever by a Coloradan in the oldest girls age group in the prestigious IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships. She was named the CWGA's Junior Player of the Year in 2015 and last month won the 5A state high school meet.

Then on Wednesday, she added the girls Colorado Junior Amateur title to the list. And since the tournament -- the first "major" of the inaugural season of the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado -- is essentially an outgrowth of the CWGA Junior Stroke Play, she can rightfully claim to have won the girls state stroke play for two years running.

"It's a great year because that tournament last year started a great streak," she said. "To end it this way feels really amazing to me. I'm really happy I could win it the way I did."

The 18-year-old Regis Jesuit High School graduate (left and above) became the first back-to-back winner of the former CWGA Junior

Bentley Rides to Victory

Colorado Junior AmateurEinsenhower Golf Club | June 13-15, 2016

The significance -- both from a historical and novel standpoint

-- of Braden Bentley’s victory on Wednesday wasn’t lost on the Colora-do Springs resident.

In winning the boys Colorado Junior Amateur -- the first “major” of the inaugural season of the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado, but also an out-growth of the CGA Junior Stroke Play, which dates back to 1977 -- Bentley appreciated the importance of the moment at Eisenhower Golf Club.

“It’s cool to be the first of a new era,” the 18-year-old said. “It’s cool to think I’m the first one of so many junior golfers that are going (to win these Junior Golf Alliance majors). It’s also good to be part of the tradition of the (CGA Junior) Stroke Play that’s been going on forever. Players like (current PGA Tour professional Mark Hubbard, the 2007 Junior Stroke Play cham-pion) and so many others that are playing good golf at a high level that have won this tournament before. It’s cool that it means it puts me in good company.”

Junior NewsStroke Play/current girls Colorado Junior Amateur since Jennifer McCormick claimed three straight titles from 1991 to '93. All told, only four girls have won the event -- which dates back to 1979 -- in consecutive years: Gailynn Addis (1981 and '82), Wendy Werley (1984 and '85), McCormick and Weinstein.

Weinstein, who will play golf starting in the fall for Regis University, went into Wednesday's final round of the Colorado Junior Amateur with a five-stroke lead at Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course. And she ended up winning by five, but it did get interesting in the middle of the round.

When 14-year-old Hailey Schalk (below) of Erie eagled the par-5 ninth hole -- hitting a hybrid from 215 yards to 1 foot from the cup -- to shoot a 4-under-par 32 on the front nine, she narrowed Weinstein's lead to one. But when Weinstein drained a 15-foot birdie on No. 10 while Schalk hit two pitches fat and made a double bogey, the lead jumped to four, and Weinstein wasn't seriously challenged the rest of the way.

"No. 10 made me mad but overall I think I played really well," said Schalk, who also posted a top-10 finish at last week's AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior. "I hit two (chip shots) fat actually on that hole and then I missed a putt. That kind of ruined the (momentum) from the eagle.

"I felt really, really good because how much I struggled the first day (78), then playing pretty good yesterday (75) and playing really good today (71) and having an eagle and being under par. This is a big tournament playing against really good people, so I was really happy to finish second. Mary is really, really good."

Both Weinstein and Schalk carded 1-under-par 71s on Wednesday, with the champion finishing at 3-over-par 219 and Schalk checking in at 224.

Caroline Jordaan of Cherry Hills Village and Sarah Hwang of Monument shared a distant third place at 240, with Jordaan carding a 79 and Hwang an 80.

The Colorado Junior Amateur was Weinstein's first tournament after returning from a two-week trip with her family following her victory in the 5A state high school tournament.

"I practiced for one week straight to try to learn how to golf again," she said. "To shoot 71 today, I'm pretty proud of that."

And it was an eventful 71 also. On the front nine, Weinstein made three straight birdies (holes 3-5), only to immediately follow them up with three consecutive bogeys. Overall for the day, she carded five birdies.

"Golf is a game where nothing is ever guaranteed," she said philosophically. "I just tried to play my best and if it was enough, it was going to work out. Obviously you have to have confidence, but you should never become overconfident."

Among those in attendance Wednesday were CGA executive director Ed Mate and his Colorado PGA counterpart, Eddie Ainsworth, a former PGA general manager at Eisenhower. The CGA and the Colorado PGA are co-founders of the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado, and the CWGA has also helped make it a success. Staffers and/or volunteers from each organization worked the boys and/or girls tournaments this week.

Bentley, a graduate of Mesa Ridge High School who’s going to play college golf at Lewis University in Ro-meoville, Ill., becomes the second straight Colorado Springs resident to win the boys state stroke play event as Isaac Petersilie prevailed in the CGA Junior Stroke Play last year.

Bentley kept all his challengers at bay with his putter coming down the stretch of Wednesday’s final round.

Bentley (left and above), a top-10 finisher in the 4A state high school meet last fall, held or shared the lead after all three days at Eisenhower Golf Club’s Blue Course. But it was five one-putt greens in the final sev-en holes Wednesday that gave him a two-stroke victo-ry. He drained putts of 20 feet, 6 feet twice, 5 feet and 3 1/2 feet in that stretch to keep him in front despite several errant shots.

Bentley hit his drive on 12 right, into the native grass, but managed to get up and down for par, making a 20-footer. He also one-putted for par on the next hole, then needed a sink a 6-footer for bogey on 15 after having a fried-egg lie in the bunker. On 16, he hit his tee shot wide right again, this time into a bush, and had to take an unplayable lie. But there he got up and down from a greenside bunker for par. And he one-putted 17 for par after missing that green. His only hiccup with the flat stick came on 18, where he three-putted. But by that time he had a comfortable lead.

“With all the stuff that happened on the back nine (to Bentley), he only had one bogey from one of those holes (where he hit an errant shot),” said Daniel Pearson of Longmont, a runner-up who was paired with Bentley.

“The short game is definitely a sta-ple for me,” said Bentley, who plays out of Cheyenne Shadows Golf Club at Fort Carson. “It’s some-thing I lean on for the most part. But until the back nine today, my putting had been just atrocious. I’d been sticking (approach shots) right next to flags, then missing putt after putt. I couldn’t find the bottom of the cup all week long. Then on the back nine (Wednes-day) it kind of switched around. I

started hitting terrible shots and getting up and down and making really clutch putts down the stretch.

“It’s so relieving when you’re standing over a putt that you know is a big putt and you can see it drop right into the middle of the cup. There’s not a feeling in the world like it.”

Bentley’s second consecutive even-par 72 left him with a winning total of 1-under 215. Three players shared second place at 217: Pearson (left, 74 Wednesday), Ryan Zetwick of Castle Rock (69) and Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins (70).

Rounding out the top five on Wednesday was Coby Welch of Highlands Ranch, the 2015 CGA Junior Player of the Year, who checked in at 218 after closing with a 71.

For Pearson, a Fairview High School senior-to-be who has verbally committed to play college golf for the Uni-versity of Nebraska, finished fourth in the CGA Junior Stroke Play -- the predecessor of this event -- last year.

“I played well all week,” he said. “Today I just didn’t make any putts. I hit good putts, but nothing really went in. I hit the ball well all week. I just need to work a little bit on my putting I guess.”

just one bogey while Team Schalk/Jordaan made four birdies with just two bogey’s added in there.

Both the boy’s and girl’s competitions were close, as both winners edged out the runner-up teams by just one shot. Breaking a scorecard playoff for second place, coming in at 4-under (68) was the team of Drew Anderson and Calvin McCoy. Anderson and McCoy were bogey-free on the day and carded an eagle on the par-5 18th. Rounding out our medalists in the boy’s competition, also shooting an impressive 68, was the team of Ryan Pearson and Hunter Tuite. Way to go, gentlemen!

On the girl’s side of the competition, one shot was also all that separated 1st and 2nd place. Also firing an under par round, posting a 1-under 71 was the team of Caroline Jordaan and Amy Chitkoksoong. Jordaan and Chitkoksoong made five birdies during their round. The only other girls’ team to card five birdies on the day was our bronze medal team of Lauren Lehigh and Aili Bundy. Great job, ladies!

Congratulations to each of our medalist teams and a big thank you goes out to all who participated in this fun event! For the full results, click here.

The temperatures cooled just a touch on Monday, down to the mid 90’s from the previous weekend’s

100+ highs, but the competition was hot at the Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifier hosted at The Heritage at Westmoor.
