As always, it is my pleasure to make all CMF rehearsals free and open to the public. Please consider this and our other great kid’s programs, including our Young People’s concerts, Classically Kids workshops, and Friday Family Fun concerts, as a fantastic way to introduce a young person to the excitement of live music making.

None of the memorable projects we have embarked upon would be possible without the stunning talents of our resident Colorado Music Festival Orchestra. These artists from around the world perform with great pride and virtuosity for you, our loyal audience.

My family and I value the interactions we have with you at the Colorado Music Festival each summer. I look forward to our time together.

With best wishes,

Michael

Dear Cmf Summer Music Lovers:

It is with great pride that I introduce to you the 2009 Colorado Music Festival summer of music at Chautauqua. This is my ninth festival season with CMF, and I’m thrilled to be part of an organization that is celebrating such a high level of artistic and organizational success.

For this summer, I had the unique challenge to offer you a diverse and exciting program that would “top” our record-breaking 2008 season. Last year, I felt the tremendous energy and focus that our patrons (and orchestra!) put into our in-depth exploration of Beethoven’s nine symphonies. During this year’s off-season, I had the opportunity to perform with several world-renowned pianists, and I was struck by how powerful and different musical interpretations can be from different piano artists. So I’m confident that you’ll be intrigued to hear five of the greatest piano concertos of all time, all in one week each performed by an exceptionally talented pianist. These concertos will be paired with other popular symphonic works by the same composers. Five brilliant pianists, five timeless composers, five unforgettable evenings!

Honoring CMF’s tradition of providing inspiration and variety, I have paired compelling classical works with world music artists who are the best in the world at what they do, like Pipa virtuoso Wu Man from Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project and our other guest ensembles. This introduction to other global cultures is a fantastic way to experience CMF and its robust musical offerings all summer long.
