America in the 1700’s. You have been given an answer sheet to record your

answers. The final question to remember is

In the 1700’s, there weren’t 50 states like America has today. We had what were called

Colonies.

In colonial times, America was going to war against England. America wanted to be it’s own country. Many men had a meeting to write a document called

The Declaration of Independence which told England that America

wanted to be freed.Try to analyze the Declaration of

Independence and write down the date and the first sentence.

The Declaration of Independence was written all in cursive by hand. A man named

John Hancock wrote it while people were helping him with

This is called a Screw Auger. It was a tool that

was used by colonial men to build. Watch the video

There was no electricity in colonial times. This meant that there were no power tools. Everything that you needed had to be made by

hand!

In colonial America, only boys were allowed to go to school. Even though many girls could read, there were not allowed to go to school at all. Some

places in the colonies didn’t even have schools. This meant that parents would

teach their children how to read and write.
