Have you heard of Usain Bolt, the man with a best time of 9.58 seconds in the 100-meter dash? He was the fastest man alive for the Olympics of 2017. Before Usain Bolt became the fastest man in the world, he made his first Olympics starting at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Which was where he took his first and only loss in an Olympic race during his full career as an Olympic athlete. He has won gold medals in the 100

meter and 200-meter races in 3 straight Olympic Games. He ran three unbelievable sprints in the Olympics and has four world titles. He has broken the 200-meter world record twice! He is a sprinter from Jamaica. He also was a member of the

team that holds the record for the 4 x 100 relay race. Unfortunately, he retired in 2017 but he is known as one of the best sprinters on all time.

His full name is Usain St Louis Bolt. He was born August 21, 1986, in Sherwood Content, a small town in Jamaica. Usain has two siblings: his brother Sadiki and a sister Sherine. His parents have a small grocery store in Sherwood Content. He spent his childhood playing sports and that was all he ever thought about!

Taylor Swift used to be my favorite singer and songwriter when I was younger. I would throw mini concerts for my family of me singing and dancing to her old country songs. Taylor Swift’s country to pop transformation left everyone in shock. Her most famous country albums were’’Fearless’’ in 2008 and ‘’Red’’ in 2012. She changed her genre to pop in 2014, as well as she released her first full pop album in the same year. Taylor’s new album, ‘’Lover’’ has been recently been a big hit. Her new album is the seventh studio album by Taylor Swift. It was released on August 23, 2019, by ‘’Republic Records.’’

Swift is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media attention. Swift was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She moved to Nashville; Tennessee when she was 14 years old to pursue a career in country music. Her album Fearless became the bestselling album of 2009 in the US. The album won four Grammy awards and by then Taylor Swift became the youngest ‘performer of the year.’’ The tour in 2015 became Taylor’s highest grossing and most attended tour at the time. They mobilized 2,278,647 fans and it produced about $250 million.

Taylor Swift has a long timeline of giving and generosity including in October 2018 Swift met a boy with autism to whom she donated $10,000 to purchase his service dog. Two years later she invited Jacob Hill and his family to RHG stadium and greeted them in person.

BasketballAnnika Andersen

Basketball is a sport played worldwide. There are many different types of leagues involving basketball, like, the WNBA, the NBA, and it’s even in the summer Olympics. Basketball is a game played with 10 players on the court (five v. five). There are four quarters each 6-8-minute intervals and after two quarters there is a half time break. There are many rules to the game, for example you cannot travel. Traveling is when you hold the ball and walk with it without dribbling at all, you have to be dribbling at all times, but you can take two steps after you stop dribbling and it won’t be called. Another main rule is that you cannot double dribble. Double dribbling is basically like traveling but you pick up the ball and stop dribbling then you start dribbling again. There are three different ways to make points in the game.

1- You make a free throw shot if you get fouled, to be able to shoot foul shots, you have to get fouled. You can get fouled anywhere on the court (on the floor foul) and you can get fouled when you try and shoot (shooting foul).

2- If you make a layup3- If you make a jump shot/3-point

shot. Basketball is a fun sport once you get the hang of all the rules and learn how to play.

Inventor of Basketball(http://www.kansasheritage.org/people/naismith.html)

Dr. James Naismith is known world-wide as the inventor of basketball. He was born in 1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte, Ontario, Canada. The concept of basketball was born from Naismith's

school days in the area where he played a simple child's game known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-room schoolhouse. The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by tossing another rock at it. Naismith went on to attend McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. After serving as McGill's Athletic Director, James Naismith moved on to the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA in 1891, where the sport of basketball was born. In Springfield, Naismith was faced with the problem of finding a sport that was suitable for play inside during the Massachusetts winter for the students at the School for Christian Workers. Naismith wanted to create a game of skill for the students instead of one that relied solely on strength. He needed a game that could be played indoors in a relatively small space. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets used as goals.

His Thirteen Rules of Basketball (1890’s):

1. The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.2. The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist.3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man running at good speed.4. The ball must be held in or between the hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding it.5. No shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping in any way of an opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul; the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No substitution shall be allowed.6. A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violations of Rules 3 and 4 and such as described in Rule 5.7. If either side make three consecutive fouls it shall count as a goal for the opponents (consecutive means without the opponents in the meantime making a foul).8. Goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from the ground into the basket and stays there, providing those defending the goal do not touch or disturb the goal. If the ball rests on the edge and the opponents move the basket, it shall count as a goal.

9. When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field and played by the first person touching it. In case of dispute the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower-in is allowed five seconds. If he holds it longer, it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on them.10. The umpire shall be judge of the men and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made. He shall have the power to disqualify men according to Rule 5.11. The referee shall be the judge of the ball and decide when it is in play in bounds, to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made and keep account of the goals with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee.12. The time shall be two 15-minute halves with five minutes' rest between.13. The side making the most goals in that time shall be declared the winners.

IPhone 11Gabby Valdespino and Addison Boliek

The IPhone 11 is the newest of the IPhones. Starting at $699 — $300 less than the iPhone 11 Pro, which starts at $999 — you might think Apple cut a lot of corners with the iPhone 11. When the new phone first came out everyone said that it looked bad and they only liked the colors. Now that the phone has been out for a little while, everyone likes the phone.

Now that the phone has more than one camera lense, the quality is so much better than any of the other IPhones available. The other nice feature is the front camera that makes every thing clearer than before. Some people only get the new phone

for the camera quality but the thing they don’t like about the phone is that it’s so expensive. When it first came out everyone was so surprised about how much the phone cost.

Some people think that the phone is “definitely not worth the price” and others think it is worth buying. People don’t think its right to make a

phone that expensive, other people say that the phone is so expensive because there are two different sizes you can get. The first size is the smaller phone size and the second size is the Pro Max, which is the larger version of the phone for the people that like the bigger phone. Apple is trying to make a phone that everyone will like.

Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Day

Madelyn Bell and Ava BridenthalShrove Tuesday or Pancake Day is always 47 days before Easter Sunday. Pancake Day is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. This year Pancake Day was on February 25th. It is celebrated because it was a day for using up food that could not be eaten during Lent, which was a time for fasting. Therefore, people made pancakes using leftover eggs and butter. Shrove Tuesday is celebrated in English-speaking countries like the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada. In other countries like the USA, France, and others Fat Tuesday is celebrated on the same day. Historic UK states, “According to tradition, in 1445 a woman of Olney

heard the church’s shriving bell while she was making pancakes and ran to the church in her apron, still clutching her frying pan. The Olney Pancake Race is now world famous.” Although Pancake Day has a historic meaning behind its name, take this day to enjoy your pancakes.

Mrs. Huffman’s Favorite Pancake

Recipe(Betty Crocker’s)

Ingredients1 egg1 cup all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon sugar3 teaspoons baking powder¼ teaspoon salt¾ cup milk 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butterSteps

1. In medium bowl, beat egg with wire whisk until fluffy. Stir in remaining ingredients just until flour is moistened (batter will be slightly lumpy); do not overmix or pancakes will be tough. For thinner pancakes, stir in additional 1 to 2 tablespoons milk.

2. Heat griddle or skillet over medium-high heat (375°F). (To test griddle, sprinkle with a few drops of water. If bubbles jump around, heat is just right.) Brush with vegetable oil if necessary (or spray with cooking spray before heating).

3. For each pancake, pour slightly less than 1/4 cup batter onto griddle. Cook 2 to 3 minutes

or until bubbly on top and dry around edges. Turn; cook other side until golden brown.

Tips Stir 1/2 cup fresh or frozen (thawed and

well drained) blackberries, blueberries or raspberries into batter.

Substitute 1 cup buttermilk for the 3/4 cup milk. Decrease baking powder to 1 teaspoon. Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.

Make healthier pancakes with whole wheat flour. Top each serving with 1/4 cup strawberry yogurt arid 1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries.

Substitute orange juice for the milk. Stir in 1/4 cup dried cranberries and 1/4 cup chopped dried apples after mixing ingredients in Step 1.

My children’s favorite is to add 1/3 cup of mini chocolate chips!
