® Power Collet Chucks

For accurate, high-volume turning of bar stock or other parts under3-1/8” in diameter, your best bet is a collet chuck. Why?

■ Consistent centering. Collet chucks grip the workpiece aroundthe entire circumference, with no slippage when the stock is re-gripped, and less risk of deformation to thin-walled workpieces.

■ Better tool clearance. Short or thin parts can be machined closer to the chuck face for better accuracy and less distortion.

■ Higher speeds. Compact, lightweight collet chucks have agreater tolerance for high centrifugal forces, hold their grippingforce more consistently, and reduce the load on machine spindlebearings.

■ Longer life. In high-volume production, collet chucks haveproven to have a consistently longer service life than 3-jawchucks.

Riten Collet Chucks are precision ground with guaranteed repeata-bility of .0002” TIR. Tolerances are held uniformly from the mountingto the working collet taper.

Riten offers three basic types of power collet chucks:

1. Pullback. Simple, one-piece design used on standard lathes.

2. Set Length. Used where precise pick-off is required. Little or noaxial part movement.

3. Setrite®. Set length chuck with ultra-fine four-screw adjustmentfeature. The most accurate chuck in the metalworking industry.

Our set length series includes special short-profile models using theversatile Multibore collet, and three labor-saving quick changechucks with pre-loadable bayonet caps.

NOTE: All collet chucks require a drawtube adapter to fit specificmachines. See page 24 for specifications.

Riten size-for-size collets (5C, 16C and R8) are designed for excellentaccuracy and repeatability, superior gripping power, and extendedservice life. To achieve this, we load the collet with a coil at the baseof the slots, heat the collet to a glowing red, insert the spreader intothe slots, and push down on the collet face. After cooling for one totwo minutes, the spreader is removed and the collet cools complete-ly. This process gives our collets a spring of .010” and drasticallyimproves the life of the collet. Few other manufacturers go to thislength to ensure a quality collet.

You’ll also find Riten collets are easier to attach, because we mill offthe thin top edge of the threads to prevent binding in the radius ofthe female thread.

For bar work, the Multibore collet gives you great flexibility. Just 12collets provide every size for 1/8” to 3-1/8”. Multibores are segment-ed to close parallel for uniform gripping on undersize or oversizebars, with no marring of the finished parts.

For second operation, the B Type Spring Collets are ideally suitedfor short gripping with both Multibore and Quick Change powerchucks.
