Mechanism of Injury A fall on an
outstretched pronated hand
Forces of twisting causing excessive supination of the forearm
Forces of compression through the wrist to the radius
Occurs about 1 inchfrom the end of the radius.

TreatmentCasting until healed: if the bone is
aligned. -If the break causes a deformity, the bone needs to be realigned. -Once healed, physical therapy is needed. (after about 6 weeks)Surgical: bone is extremely out of place. -cast, metal pins, plate & screws, or external fixator.
