The College of Music offers five fields of study for Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts Degrees:

Music Performance (BM)

Composition (BM)

Jazz Studies—Instrumental and Vocal Performance or Jazz Arranging (BM)

Bachelor of Arts in Music—Classic or Music History track (BA)

Music Education—Choral, Orchestral, or Band-Instrumental (BM)

Music Theory (BM)

Music majors take basic core music classes in theory, history, private lessons, piano, and performance groups (music laboratories). Some majors require additional hours to those listed below, but all music majors will fulfill these courses:

Music Theory & Aural Skills:

1st Semester Freshman Year—Theory & Aural Skills I: MUTH 1400 (2 hrs), & 1410 (2hrs)

2nd Semester Freshman Year—Theory & Aural Skills II: MUTH 1500 (2 hrs), & 1510 (2 hrs)

1st Semester Sophomore Year—Theory & Aural Skills III: MUTH 2400 (2 hrs), & 2410 (1 hr)

2nd Semester Sophomore Year—Theory & Aural Skills IV: MUTH 2400 (2 hrs) & 2510 (1 hr)

Music in the Human Imagination: MUMH 1600 (3 hrs)

Music History up to 1750: MUMH 3500 (3hrs)

Music History from 1750 to the Present: MUMH 3510 (3 hrs)

Music History Senior-Level elective: (3 hrs)

Applied Music: Private Lessons BA (8 hrs); BM (12+ hrs) Applied Secondary: Piano (2 hrs)

Conducting: BM only (2+ hrs)

Music Laboratory: Large Ensembles BA (6 hrs) BM (1 hr required each long semester/term)
