About Honors Day

The College of Fine Arts Honors Day is a celebration of the accomplishments of graduating seniors from the areas represented by the College—Art, Dance, Graphic Design, Interior Design and Fashion Merchandising, Music, and Theatre—who have also completed the requirements to graduate from the Honors College with either University or Departmental Honors. After completing Lower-Division Honors coursework, Honors College students choose one of two paths to complete their Upper-Division requirements: University Honors or Departmental Honors. In the former category, students complete a set of seminar-type courses called Colloquia, which offer participants the opportunity to explore central topics in the human experience in an interdisciplinary setting. Those students completing Departmental Honors, on the other hand, delve deeply into a large-scale research or creative project in their home department, guided in their studies by a small committee of faculty members. Public presentation of research and creativity is a requirement to complete Departmental Honors, and to that end the College of Fine Arts Honors Day program features 15-minute presentations from each Departmental Honors candidate, followed by a 5-minute Question & Answer period. Presentations will be evaluated by a panel of judges representing each area of the College of Fine Arts. This panel will select one presenter to participate in the final round of the Honors College’s Boller Competition.
