STUDENT-MANAGED INVESTMENT FUND

Students in the College of Business at Loyola University New Orleans have a unique opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the real world of investment funds. The Student-Managed Investment Fund course allows our top students to participate in all aspects of financial investing, including choosing stocks and managing those choices—and it all takes place in real time with real money and real risks.

A SKILLED INVESTOR GIVES BACKThe $1 million fund managed by the class was made possible through a gift from the estate of Loyola College of Business alumnus Carlos M. Ayala. Mr. Ayala enjoyed investing money on a personal level his entire life. Investing was both a passion and hobby of his. Through his bequest to the College of Business, he made it possible for students to learn first-hand what he had practiced for years: informed investments based on intense study of the market.

BENEFITS TO OUR STUDENTSMr. Ayala’s donation also provided for a state-of-art stock trading room located on the first floor of Miller Hall, which brings finance studies at Loyola to a whole new level. In keeping with the Jesuit tradition of giving back, proceeds of the financial gains made by the students in the investment class support need-based scholarships for other College of Business students.
