College Month Lesson 3: Extra‐Curricular Activities
Lesson Description The purpose of this lesson is to help you student understand the importance of extra‐curricular activities, and provide help with recording or planning these activities.
Introduction Questions Why do you think extra‐curricular activities might be important to a college?
Activities Work with your student to help fill in the sheet. If you have internet access, you may want to consult the school’s website to see what activities exist and help your student make a plan to become more involved.
Questions
How do extra‐curricular activities differ from grades and tests?
My Extra‐Curricular Transcript Extra‐curricular activities are those activities beyond your normal curriculum and classes. A Extra‐Curricular Transcript is an important document to fill in and update through your high schools years. Colleges put a lot of importance on your extra‐curricular activities.
Instructions: Use this sheet to fill in some of the activities in which you are already involved, or plan to be involved. Look at the sample attached for ideas. Don’t wait until you are submitting applications to try to remember what you have done! It is important to keep this list (or your own list) and continue to fill it in through 12th grade.
